The color is so rich and true. The backside of them is a matte black while the serving side is the prettiest blue with brown flecks. They have a very nice, even weight. They feel sturdy while not being too heavy. And are very well made. I don't use a microwave but I am sure they would be fine in one. They retain the heat from the food that I use them for but don't get too hot to sit on my lap. The bowls are small across, but very deep, which makes them ideal for the perfect amount of whatever you wish to put in them. The texture is smooth and feels very nice, which makes them easier to clean. I did drop one the other day while hand washing them, and it did not break or chip.
