Not quite the end of a series...

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2017*

Whenever Liam Burnett has been in the books of this series, he was the laid back-never take things seriously guy. He is described as a man who looks much younger than his actual age.His story takes us into his history that has only been hinted at in previous books. His casual attitude is his mechanism for dealing with his dark past. We've seen in a book or two his competitiveness with Ty, the Foxworth tech guru. We know Quinn brought him to the foundation to work after he hacked into their unhackable system. We also know Liam is an excellent tracker, second only to the dog.Ria Connelly becomes involved with the Foundation because a student of hers (someone very important from Quinn's past) has great concern for another of her students. A young boy of 16 who hasn't been himself since his mother passed away months ago. No one seems to be able to get through to this boy, so Quinn sends Liam back to school. Liam's reaction to this was priceless (he thought he might be getting sent back as a student due to how young he looks). Instead, he is sent to offer martial arts classes to the students ... something Dylan (the young boy) has shown an interest in in the past.Ria, as the teacher who gets him and his class approved by the head administrator, wants to keep being included in the case. Liam would rather just do the job and steer clear of her since she's making him feel things he's sworn off for years. He knows Cutter's track record for not only solving cases, but throwing couples together. Whenever he sees Cutter working THOSE lines, he warns the dog it isn't happening this time. Cutter isn't quite as involved in the match making in this book as the previous.Ria's attraction to Liam was instantaneous. From the moment she saw him shirtless after playing with Cutter as she and Emily arrived at the foundation. As per a typical romance novel, both parties cover their feelings and believe what they feel is one sided. When Liam FINALLY opens up about his past with Ria feeling she's going to hate him. That that is the way for her to decide for herself that she doesn't want to be attracted to a killer (his words). She surprises him with going through everything he's told her and pointing out how each of the deaths he's taking accountability for (women from his past) are really not his fault at all.The story was pretty predictable as to why Dylan was acting out since his mother died. The reason however was a bit of a surprise. Of course, all of it comes together in a hurry at the end with all those who know Liam seeing him not as his happy go lucky self. Especially when something happens to Ria and he feels his "jinx" is going to kill yet another woman he cares for. It takes Quinn reminding him they need his expertise as a tracker to find her. Once Liam gets his head back in the game (mission), he, Cutter, Quinn and Teague work together to find Ria and end his curse.Though I don't see more books in this series, I'm certain more are coming. There's been a mystery woven into all of these books that hasn't been resolved and a few characters within the foundation who haven't had their story just yet. The mysterious Charlie would certainly have an interesting story should one be written for her. My guess is Rafe Crawford's story would be what wraps up that mystery since he is so heavily involved in it throughout all the books.

Not an example of this stellar author's best work

*by C***R on Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2018*

I am a dedicated fan of both Ms. Davis and this series. I think this book was a rare lapse on the part of a prolific author. As a reader, I suspend reality a bit when it comes to Cutter because he's so engaging and I can still enjoy the rest of the story. In this case, there are so many improbabilities that I couldn't enjoy the story and I forced myself to finish it simply because I paid for it. I started listing those improbable elements in this review but I ventured into potential spoiler territory which I'd prefer to avoid so I deleted them. I also have no desire to trash this talented author. Bottom line, there is little chemistry, no realism in the storyline, no mystery, and over the top ending and imho little reason to invest in this book when she has so many others that are worth their weight in gold.

    Great story

Another great story in the Cutter series. I enjoyed the balance of dealing with the issues kids can go through with caring for friends, bullying, loss of a parent and hope, protection and love for a sibling. All those things while building a romance that heals a mislaid guilt.
