Some say it should, a top reviewer says no.. thanks** A: These modern plastic PCV valves do not rattle like the older metal PCV valves. You can hear very faint rattles if you are somewhere really quiet. **Q: Is this still manufactured in Japan ?If not i will have to return because this listing states it is made in Japan .** A: Not sure on where it was manufactured but mine was faulty and it exacerbated the problem. I bought a Honda oem one instead, made in Japan, works perfect and remedied my engine problem of leaking oil. **Q: Does this product make a rattling sound? Is it normal to have a rattling sound?** A: Yes, it will have a rattling sound. There is a small plastic ball inside that acts as a check valve. It keeps air/exhaust flowing in one direction. **Q: Mine doesn't make a sound. Is this okay?** A: Hmm.. When you say 'mine', do you mean the valve you took out of the vehicle, or the new part you received? Generally, a new PCV valve should rattle when you shake it. That would be the internal check valve/ball that you would hear. However, there may be an internal spring that may not allow the valve to rattle. A used, gummed up valve will most likely not make any noise. There is lots of confusion and misinformation here, so I hope my review is helpful.The pcv valve is supposed to be a one-way valve that allows positive crankcase vapors and pressure to be routed into the air intake and be subsequently burned in the combustion chamber. There are two openings on the valve: the holes in the middle of the valve, and the openings in the small, tip end. There is a spring loaded piston in the valve such that air should only pass from the middle holes through to the tip end.If you can pass air both directions then the valve is no longer good (which is how my oem valve was). If you cannot pass air from the middle holes through the tip end then the valve is blocked and likewise no longer good. I was surprised how hard I had to blow (about as much or a little more than starting to inflate a party balloon) to get air to flow through the valve, but I didn't engineer this part, so I'm not the judge of whether the difficulty is proper or not. It is a new part, so I'm going to assume it is as it should be.As I note in my pics, the middle holes are for the portion of the housing on the engine valve cover. Crankcase gas in the valve cover enters the middle holes of the valve, goes past the spring loaded piston in the valve, and then exits the tip end to go through the hose into the intake manifold.THERE ARE NO LOOSE PARTS IN HERE. People saying the thing is possibly defective because they couldn't sense any parts rattling are conjecturing. Maybe that's the case for other pcv valve designs, it is not the case for this one.The o-rings on this valve and the fitment in its hole are perfectly fine. This valve snapped into place as I installed it, indicating the o-rings did have to compress to get the valve inserted into its hole. This did NOT fit any looser than the oem one I removed.On my 05 Odyssey access to this valve is straight-forward with enough room.
