I've installed several pool pumps in my life (I live in Florida and have had 4 pools in over 30 years). This was by far the easiest pump installation of them all; the pump determines all aspects of polarity, voltage and frequency. Just be sure to ground/bond the system. I use a salt generator to chlorinate the pool. The previous installation used a master timer to control and power both the salt generator and the pump simultaneously. As this system comes with an integral timer, I left the salt generator on the master timer and used the factory default programming on the pump. All I can say is "WOW". Most of the time you can't tell if this is running because it's so quiet, and it functions flawlessly. The single draw back to this purchase is that the manufacturer does not honor the warranty if you install the pump yourself. As a result, I purchased the warranty marketed by desertcart thru Asurion. I seldom buy additional warranties, but my previous pump didn't last more than about 3 years and I'd paid more for it than this. Further, I'd never been able to get it to prime at low speeds and trying to figure out a work around when it started after a power failure proved too difficult so I never ran it at low speed (that pump was a two speed pump, both speeds pre-set by the manufacturer, Eco Pump). This pump with it's manufacturers default programming always starts at high speed for 5 minutes to insure it primes. When mine turns on, it is programmed at high speed for 30 minutes to clear the surface and get the water moving. My pool man programmed it for me to drop to 30% for the next 5 hours. That saves me $$. Now if I'm having people over to swim, i can hit a quick clean button to clear the surface again. The longer i can keep the pump running at less than full power the more money I save. **Q: My 1hp pump went out and heard a variable speed pump is the way to go when replacing it. is it ok to go up to a 1.5 hp** A: Variable speed pumps can be set to handle different flows to accommodate pipe size, I use this pump to replace a 1.5 HP pool filter pump (2" pipe)and a 1 HP spa jets pump (1-1/2" pipe). Just program the speed (RPM) to accommodate the use and the flow of the pipe sizes. By only running the pump at the design capacity of the plumbing, noise is reduces to a wiper and it actually uses about half the energy that the original pump uses (in my case 400 watts vs 800 for the spa, yours may be different). All the speed in both pumps are set lower than 3000 RPM. No issues vacuuming (cleaning) and the Jets are quite strong in the spa). If you can effort the extra cost variable speed pumps are more versatile and they don't destroy their self by running full speed. **Q: Is this a self priming pump?** A: yes after your first operation annually each morning it runs for 5 minutes at high speed and primes itself. I have never started spring without pouring water in the pot as I always did with my previous pump. Never after that even after cleaning the debris bucket do I prime again. **Q: Will this pump be sufficient for a 11,000 gallon pool which has a pv3 in-floor pool cleaning system? i currently have hayward sp3215ee tristar 1.5hp** A: I don't have the PV3 cleaning system. In my opinion this pump outperforms all single speed 1.5 HP pumps if programmed right (60 to 100 GPM depending on TDH). I reprogrammed the "Quick Clean" function for swiping the pool clean, I imaging that in your case after the nozzles lift, then you can set the speed of the pump for optimal flow, energy savings and noise comfort. Because the regular programming uses a lower RPM in the second stage to save energy, that flow may not have enough to allow your system to work properly, unless you also reprogram that cycle phase and time. During the setup of my pump, I needed to lower the recommended RPM of the pump to get the right flow for my 1-1/2" piping, that saves even more energy and make the pump almost silent.
