After searching all the home centers and hardware stores in my area, I found these simple beauties. When they arrived - earlier than expected - I dry fit them to the very edges of the posts; they just made it over the wood. Yea! I did not want silver so spray painted them with 2 coats of an exterior Bronze color. Once dry, I used a rubber mallet with a leather work glove between it and each topper to pound them into place. Snug fit, no adhesive needed. Images are from left side and right side view of the stairs. I'm very pleased with the look and the fit of these post caps. Highly recommend. Notes: - The edges can be a tad rough in spots. I used a rock from my yard to smooth where needed on one cap. The other was fine as received. - If your posts are slightly larger than the caps, used a wood file/sander/sand paper to trim down the wood edges a little. It rained a lot for a while, but I didn't see any rust yet. Only negative aspect of this cap is a bit loose for 2×4 post.
