## Description

Nikon MC-DC2 Remote Release Cord for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Review: Works Great - This little cable release is great and easy to use. I've had bad luck with wireless remotes and all I was looking for was the ability to release the shutter on my camera while mounted on the tripod without touching the camera itself and to use the bulb feature to keep my shutter locked open. The release button is large and easy to use when not looking at the device or in the dark. To use the bulb feature, just press the button and slide forward to lock. No little metal screws to try and set (and un-set). Though I've not done it, I believe this would be very easy to use while wear a pair of gloves. My only concern is the entire remote is made of plastic, so I'm very careful in how I handle it and keep it protected in my camera bag. At 41" the cable is not very long, which is fine for what I need, but if you are looking to do nature photography and hide from any animals, this isn't going to work that great for you. For the price, this is a great piece of equipment to add to your camera bag.
Review: Just what I needed ! - I bought this for use on my Nikon D7000 and landscape photography. I have the Nikon ML-L3 wireless remote which is battery operated, so I wanted a backup just in case. The MC-DC2 securely plugs into the D7000's GPS port on the left side of the camera, out of the way of frequently used buttons or switches. It works out great for me, as now I don't have to worry about a battery failure in my remote and I prefer to use the remote with my left hand. It works just like the camera shutter button, as you simply press it halfway down to focus, and then the remainder of the way to trip the shutter. Once you trip the shutter, you can slide the button forward just a little to lock the shutter in the open position for those long exposures. A very nice feature ! As other reviewers stated, perhaps some photographers may require or prefer a longer wire; but I don't see that it will be a problem for me as I do not want to get too far away from my equipment during a long exposure. Very satisfied and would highly recommend this product !!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works!

And darned well should considering it is the OEM's version of the remote cable release. This is an absolute necessity for anyone doing exposures longer than 1/30th of a second on a tripod or any type of long exposure. This is also essential when doing macro-photography on a tripod with available light or with F stops over F22. When combined with a good tripod this allows you to get crystal clear images with maximum depth of field - without any noticeable degree of blur from motion caused by setting off the shutter by hand on the camera body. For macro-photography, it is essential to have your camera mounted on a tripod, and for objects that require maximum field of view, you need to use the highest aperture that will give you the depth of field that will allow your main object to be fully in focus. This can often times require one to shoot at F22, or with bellows and a macro lens, as high as F128 on smaller objects with extreme magnification. You will suffer some loss of quality around the edges of your field in the shot, but this is usually not a problem. Remember, if you have a 50mm macro lens wit6h 200mm of extension, set to F16, you will be magnified by a factor of 4 and your effective aperture will be F64. Under these conditions, your shutter speed, at ISO 100, will be about 1/16 of a second in normal daylight. There is no way that you are going to get many good shots without a tripod and a remote release. Under extreme circumstances, you might also need to lock up your mirror before setting off the shutter as the mirror can induce enough vibration to reduce the clarity of your image. Remember that the effective aperture of a lens is the focal length of the lens divided by the effective diameter of the lens. If your lens is an F2.0 with 50mm focal length, extension tubes or bellows totalling 100mm will give you an effective aperture of F4.0, at F16 set on the lens, you will have F32 and so on.
