The timer is rated to handle 40 amps at 240 volts and typical water heaters draw slightly less than 20 amps at that voltage. Some water heaters, however, can draw substantially more. Check the circuit breaker for your water heater to find out how much the circuit can deliver. If it is more than 40 amps, do NOT use this timer but if it is less than 40 amps, it should be fine. **Q: Will a rain sensor work with this timer?** A: The timer can't work with a rain sensor. **Q: Can this timer be used on a gas water heater?** A: Not for any gas water heater I'm familiar with. Unless your water heater plugs into the wall, how would aa timer control the water heater? Even for an electric water heater, the timer is only rated for 40 amps. (Yes, technically there is a way but unless you are a master electrician, it would be very unsafe). **Q: Will this replace Intermatic R8806p101c sprinkler timer?** A: Yes, it will. It can be wired for either a single leg of 120 Volts or to a Poly Phase up to 277 Volts. 50-60 Hertz. It's also good for up to 40 Amps whereas the mechanical timer is good only to 30 Amps. Simple wiring instructions are included with it for your application. I installed mine of a water heater. in my shop. I also purchased their Wi-Fi version for a second water in my house. ## Frequently Bought Together - DEWENWILS Pool Pump Timer, Digital Timer Box, 2HP 40A 120-277 VAC, 7-Day 20 ON/Off Programmable Timer Switch for Water Heater, Pool Pump, SPA, Motor, ETL Listed Gray - CARBO Instruments Water Pressure Gauge for Swimming Pool Filter, Spa, Aquarium, 60psi Plumbing Clean Filter Indicator with Dual Display & 1/4" NPT Brass Lower Connection with Teflon - EASYTEST 9-Way Pool Test Strips, 140 Strips for Hot tub and Spa, Accurate Testing pH, Total Chlorine, Free Chlorine, Bromine, Alkalinity, Total Hardness, Cyanuric Acid, Salt and Copper --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.at/products/434609405-dewenwils-pool-pump-timer-digital-timer-box-2hp-40a-120](https://www.desertcart.at/products/434609405-dewenwils-pool-pump-timer-digital-timer-box-2hp-40a-120) --- *Product available on Desertcart Austria* *Store origin: AT* *Last updated: 2026-10-22*
