For gates this big, it is a good idea to have a helper. It was important for us to align both inserts to be at the same height on each gate. The instructions in the box are OK, but we did watch the video on their website. It is worth the few minutes to do that. For this model we used a 9/16" spade bit at the corners and cut along the template line to adjoin the holes. If you cut right on the line the parts should fit well. There is not much room for error, though, so go slowly. If you have the gate down from its post and laying on some saw horses, the process of marking, drilling and cutting should take about 20 minutes. Assembly of the two halves of the insert are by way of included allen screws. The allen wrench is provided in the kit. There are two sizes of screws included. Use those which best match the thickness of the gate. We used the smaller screws as our pickets are 5/8 inches thick. Overall, it is an easy job once you have your gate set up and tools ready. We are very pleased with the product and the results. It would be a good idea to keep the allen wrench for maintenance time.
