Later, I realized the other scanner has the same software, but a smaller screen. They both cost about the same, so this was obviously a better deal! The instructions are a little hard to read because I think they were translated from another language, but at least you get instructions. I had problems getting the DataTools software to work with my version of Excel, but then I tried using a CSV file instead of XLSX, and that worked fine. My test CSV file didn't want to import without at least 2 rows, which hung me up when testing until I figured that out. The thing I like most about this scanner is how fast it is and how good it is at reading barcodes. I used mine to scan hundreds of barcodes for items that are stored in a plaster wrapper. My old scanner would barely read the barcode through the plastic. This one is so fast, I thought it couldn't possibly be working! It actually works really great. This wasn't something I was expecting for such an inexpensive barcode scanner. For the price, I think the only drawback to this scanner is the documentation. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to pick on whoever wrote the manual. It's just sounds like it was written in another language and then lost some of the info in the translation.
