## Overview

3M Scotch-Weld Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8010 is a high-performance, blue acrylic adhesive designed for bonding low surface energy plastics like polypropylene and polyethylene without special surface treatments. Delivered in a 45 mL Duo-Pak cartridge for precise mixing and dispensing, it offers a 10-minute repositioning window and cures fully within 8-24 hours. Engineered to replace mechanical fasteners, it provides strong, slightly flexible bonds ideal for industrial applications across electronics, transportation, and construction sectors.

## Description

When using a Duo-Pak (DP) size adhesive, rely on 3M dispensing equipment for convenient and accurate metering, mixing and dispensing. Creates a Strong Bond on Low Surface Energy Plastics: Structural bonds can be achieved without special surface treatments such as chemical etching, plasma, flame, or corona treatment or priming. Simply wipe the surfaces with isopropanol to remove mold release agents, dust dirt, etc. 3M Scotch-Weld Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8010 Blue also bonds metals, ceramics, and wood and most other plastics. It is slightly flexible when cured. We also formulate this adhesive with 8 mil spacer beads for bond line spacing. Recommended Applications: Joining plastics to metals, such as in the manufacture or repair of appliances, Bonding low surface energy plastics without priming, Impact resistance composite bonding, Manufacture or repair of various sporting goods equipment, Low surface energy plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene and thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs). Our 3M Scotch-Weld Acrylic Adhesive DP8010 starts with medium viscosity for controlled dispensing and spreads to sufficiently wet out the surface. The mix ratio is 10:1 and provides a 10 minute work life. The adhesive reaches handling strength in approximately 1 hour and is fully cured in 8-24 hours (at 72° F /22° C). Easy Adhesion with Acrylic: Acrylic adhesives are two-part adhesives that provide excellent bond strength and durability. Often referred to as epoxy adhesives or epoxy glue, acrylics actually belong to a separate chemical family with their own unique characteristics. This very unique adhesive bonds LSE plastics without priming or other surface treatments.

Review: Expensive but amazingly strong; a bit hard to work. Successfully repaired polypropylene car bumper - Expensive, but strong. Definitely worth it if you need to make a critical repair, especially on low surface energy materials that don't take to traditional adhesives. A tab completely snapped off of my polypropylene car bumper, and this was able to easily and securely reattach it. I was amazed at how strong the repair was over a very thin and narrow bond line. However, it does come with its quirks. First, you need to have the proper dispensing gun: I got a compatible generic one off of eBay since the genuine 3M guns are expensive, especially for a DIYer. Next, you definitely want to get the 3M mixing nozzles. Getting the right ratio squirting and mixing by hand is very difficult; I tried this once and it probably had just a little to much activator which significantly reduced the work time. Finally, it's a little harder to work since it's thicker and doesn't really run. You also need to make sure the repair gap isn't so small that all the adhesive gets squeezed out, or else your repair won't stick. For those types of really thin/close fitting repairs, you might be better off using superglue and a LSE material primer since it's a lot better at wicking into cracks
Review: Supposed to be great stuff - They say that for many types of plastics, this is absolutely *the* best adhesive you can possibly get. You *do* need mixing tips; you should use the special gun to extrude it as well. I had the special 10:1 tips, and improvised the gun with my laser cutter. Still, neither of the two things I glued with it worked at all. Now, I'm no polymer materials engineer or plastic chemist, so maybe I just happened to pick the wrong types of plastics (and the AI I consulted about it was also wrong), but I'm pretty sure this isn't going to make a bond that's anywhere near as strong as the underlying material (like you can get with other materials and adhesives). And not only is this stuff expensive, all the paraphernalia you need to use it is also expensive. Also, word to the wise: Lots of chemical products say "use in a well-ventilated area", etc., and most of us nod and avoid huffing whatever it is. I definitely recommend you use this stuff in a *well*-ventilated area. It's definitely an eye/airway irritant.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this epoxy work on a Kayak made of polyethylene? There is a crack of 6 inch on top of kayak.**
A: It will fix it, recommend you have a patch of rigid plastic you are gluing behind the crack to give it more rigidity. Something that can flex will give it trouble. It will leave a rough residue after it cures and shrinks which you can sand down.

**Q: Will this bond aluminum to hdpe for below waterine use? if not which product would you recommend**
A: I can’t answer your question directly but I used it for HDPE to HDPE and I think it worked. You can mix a small amount and give it a test. I would definitely degrease both materials well and sand them with rough paper too.

**Q: is it waterproof? Flexible?**
A: After the long curing period..... it is water proof and semi flexible

**Q: Is there a dispenser /applicator to work with this?**
A: Do not use the dispenser advertised with this product. The plunger has two sides and the smaller of the two is too large for that side. False information.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It sticks. But read to understand the difficulties...
*by T***E on February 14, 2024*

On the plus side, this will bind plastics that are very difficult for most glues to stick to. It creates an absolutely solid bond. But with great powers comes great other issues to consider. It's expensive. You do need the official 3M dispenser and mixing tips, which are also expensive. It smells pretty bad while drying, and it takes 48 hours for the smell to fully dissipate, so don't try to use it indoors in your office or home if you're going to be there. It's really sticky and you do not want this on your hands. The first time I used it to bond two plastic surfaces together I put it on not thick enough, so do make sure you're applying enough. I used it to bind a PLA print to a Pelican case, two plastics which really don't want to be glued together, and it's totally solid. I'm giving it 5 stars because when you need a glue like this, this is the glue you need. As the product description says, this is not for consumer use, and oh yeah it's definitely not. Updated review: the first two applicators I used of this worked but I had major problems dispensing it. The high-volume component simply squirted out to the side of the nozzle. This resulted in a mess, and also too much of the low-volume component which made it cure too fast. I went through a bunch of nozzles and couldn't get it to work. Turns out the problem is the most common nozzles are designed for 1:1 or 2:1 ratios. That type of nozzle will NOT work with this glue. You need to get a proper 3M 10:1 nozzle. This is an orange tip, square nozzle part # 7100007806.
