This item definitely helps to hold the shape of the hat and protects it in the washer. I then let it air dry. I wish it had a protection or extension for the bill, but I guess it's not really necessary. They are large, so my hats will move around and sometimes get folded inside the netting. This isn't a firm or hard press that keeps the hat in place, only to somewhat keep the cap open during the washing. Might want to look into the actual all-plastic locking frame that will truly hold the cap in place, not so much the loose netting.
