Standard mechanical pencils are OK, but let's face it, they're thin and sometimes hard to grip. They're great for making precision marks, so I still have mine in my toolbox. These bigger, thicker mechanical pencils are excellent. They're strong and durable. With a plastic grip and metal shaft, they've already taken some abuse without breaking. They have a sharpener in the lid that is easily removed to sharpen dull tips. I love the case they're shipped in, and the red and yellow pencil leads are also excellent.
