Review: Great noise cancellation - very good music quality - I dont know why people say the sound quality is lacking when these are easily the most customizable ear buds I have ever owned. On android devices you can opt to use LDAC which is a Bluetooth codec that offers less compression to maintain higher quality audio. The compression between your device and the ear buds the better. You have full control of many default audio equalizer settings and you can create a dozen customized profiles you can switch to quickly. Through the Soundcore app you can give yourself a hearing test that takes 15 minutes and then the app will create a complete customized sound profile to balance sound against any deficiencies in your hearing range. Pretty amazing really. Sound cancellation is exceptional. Make sure you are using the proper ear bud tips so ambient noise isn't filtering in, the app can actually perform a fit test. You stay in a quiet room and perform the test. The ear buds play noises in a frequency you cant hear and uses the microphones on the outside of the buds to see how well the ear buds are sealing. Call quality is great and they do a great job of filtering ambient noise from your call so it remains clear on both ends. The touch controls are fully customizable from 1 and 2 taps or press and hold left or right and what function you want performed. Battery life is great with a constant 8 to 10 hours of life per charge and the case recharges the buds many time before needing charging itself. One of the best quality buds you can get with form and function at this price range.
Review: Update 11-04-23- at bottom of review - I just got these in the mail today. Dropped them on the wireless charger, got them to full capacity and set them up. Easy enough to pair, had to remove the little stickers over the ear bud charging contact, but then good to pair. The app was easy to set up. Has a familiar hearing test set up to fine tune the EQ for my screwed up hearing. Swapped the really tiny rubber ear bud plugs to a larger size to fit. Then fired up my music app. I was pleasantly surprised! They sound great, much better than expected! Look, people complaining about lack off bass need to realize what they stuck in their ear! For wireless ear buds, these have more than adequate bass. Great mids and highs as well. Happy with the sound quality!! I listen to old (& not so old) rock, some metal, hip hop (before it turned into whatever these kids today call hip hop), mellow "office music" all the way to singing bowls for meditation... these seem great right out of the gate. You see I got these during desertcart big deal days for about half off, $50 or so. They were gonna be back ups for my Jabra ear buds. I used to use some old Sony extra bass wired buds that cost 20 bucks 10 years ago ( the sound on those were really good for my eclectic audio preferences) as my back ups. However the new cell phones don't have a 3.5 mm plug, so I needed an extra pair of wireless when the main ones are Recharging. As of today, I can see these being in the mix with the main pair! They really sound good and fit nice too. They are comfortable at this point, but alas; I have yet to wear them for hours on end. I cannot yet verify battery life or any other longer term possible issues. I will for myself and the purpose of this review use the statements provided by Anker as true, until proven wrong. At that point, if it should arise, I will gladly return to this review and update. As of today, I would recommend these, even at full price. Unless something catastrophic occurs, I would get these again. I have alot of Anker stuff, chargers, cables etc. and haven't had any issues with those. Seems they are doing pretty good in the ear bud arena as well! Any issues arise, I will be back to let you all know!!! Thanks for reading my review, hope it helps you. UPDATE: These things have been outperforming my $250+ buds everytime. No regrets in buying these. There are still running strong. The ANC is on par with higher end units. Recently flew for a few hours each way: zero (or no noticeable) latency while watching movies- the actors mouth and words match up great. The ANC does its best with airplane noise, but still let's in some cabin buzz. I used an over the ear set of cheapy headphones with ANC in addition to these beautys and no problems, almost no noise. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a great pair of buds; great sound, great battery life- you charge the case with a wireless charger, nice convenience. They don't fall out with snug rubber tips installed. Better than the numerous "beats" I've tried and definitely on par and outperforming my high end Jabra. Again, you should not have any issues with these at all and will be thanking that random reviewer so talking you into these!!!! Time will tell if these last, and so will I; I'll be back if anything fails on these.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anyone know if any Comply tips fit these buds? These fit poorly for me with the stock silicone tips.**
A: I asked Comply directly. They said they don't know. I submitted a request to test.

I also asked on Reddit. Was suggested the TW200As would fit. They don't. They're too big. Awaiting a return as I bought directly from Comply

**Q: Will they stay in if you sleep with them in?**
A: These are slim profile and comfortable, yes u can sleep with them in.

**Q: How do these compare to bose quiet comfort earbuds? price point is significantly lower but they look more comfortable for side sleepers on long flight**
A: I can side sleep in these and I have pretty small ears. The battery is also better on these. Bose is hard to beat for noise cancellation, I would say these are much better overall. Of Bose were a 10 for ANC these might be an 8? Much better than the price point IMO.

**Q: Do they have an auto-off feature when you put them back in the case? When do they turn off automatically?**
A: They do disconnect when you put them in the case, but if you don't close the lid, they won't charge. Ask me how I know?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great sound *and* great fit... but recent pairs had issues w/ warranty UPDATE 14 JAN 26
*by T***R on January 29, 2025*

Own a set of P40s bought here also... and have some meaningful comparisons to make with this A40. Bought the P40s for their frankly amazing battery life claims (which in the field have proven to be accurate and not just plausibly-deniable marketing). A40 has two hrs less life on full charge, which drove me to the P40s -- which also wowed with its *amazing* sound vs. my old inferior pair of Jabra Elite 7 Pros at dbl the retail price. So far so good... But over time the one flaw (at least for this user) P40 had, became an issue: fitment is dirt-poor -- meaning they fall out of ears or need adjustment constantly, in my ears at least. The Jabras were already bad due to how heavy they are vs. the 2024 crop of Li-powered earbuds... but P40 despite feeling half the weight of the Jabras in-hand... fell out like I'd used too-small an earcup. Wrong, as the only size that wouldn't fail the Fit Test on the Soundcore app, did feel initially to seal correctly. The problem is the oblong design of the cups themselves -- you cannot get an oval cup to fit in a round canal and seal, again at least in my ears. So when resting on the sofa, they need minding and readjusting about once every 10m or so, just to preserve their great sound... which is a showstopper. So saw these A40s did not use an oval earcup, but a round one. Not surprisingly taking them out of the box this morning, fit *perfectly* with the same earcup size Fit Test suggested in the app for P40. To boot, the shape of the A40 differs from the Jabras (similar form factor) in that they are a bit shorter, thus stay in contact with the skin of the outer ear more closely -- leading to better retention. I can shake my head as hard as I can, and the fit stays the same -- the Jabras would be in the gutter on a run, which was frustrating as they retailed for $129, more than dbl the cost of these A40s. So were curious about 1) sound, and 2) battery life. Battery will need a few days to figure out, so will update later with more field exps... but the sound? Tbh the only difference I hear P40 vs A40... is the dynamic rage of the A40 is ever-so-slightly muddier. But the P40 won't resolve bass as well, and will clip, again ever-so-slightly, as long as you haven't cranked preamp settings thru the roof. So for the bulk of my listening (80% YT and calls, 20% music) the A40 is the better buy -- unless of course you want them to last a flight from NZ <--> HI, or UK <--> TH -- which 90% of earbuds will tap out long before the landing sequence. So far, having tuned A40 with the app... the only things I find the P40s do better, is respond to touch controls (takes a half-sec vs. virtually instantly), which is offset by the P40 touch 'area' on the earbud body being way too sensitive -- much easier to adjust the A40s in your ear w/o activating touch controls -- which to me is preferable. The case holds just as much charge in hrs-playtime, so really for my use case the A40s have it. Still like the P40s, and will defo take them on long roadtrips or flights, granted no running w/ bags in the airport's a given (which tbh it never is 100% 😅). So P40 will serve bedtime duty and A40s will be for the road and office (job requires lots of moving around and lots of head articulation away from eyes-horizon... which the P40s have dropped out of ears more times than I can count). Reviews for these, pls believe them when they say, it's a great buy not to be missed if you like snug fitment *and* awesome sound. Five stars; will update if any showstoppers or concerns pop up ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ UPDATE 10 FEB 25: Having tried both the P40i and A40 now a couple of weeks... I can without any reservation whatsoever endorse getting the A40 between the two. Not only is it less expensive, but the difference in ear tip design + more secure fit in my particular ears make both a secure fit when in different body positions, and doesn't sacrifice any quality of sound I can detect (P40i still feel as if it's a hybrid betw. the no-eartip, non-sealed designs, and true round-section ear-canal-sealing earbuds -- without a clear advantage over each). The only advantage P40i offers for its price tbh, is a slightly more feature-full options list in the Soundcore app, and better advertised battery life on one charge and in the case -- that's it. 10H in my use case is plenty of life, and both take less than 15m on a 2A charger to go from the 'recharge battery' warning, to 100%. Anker has a winner in the A40, by balancing the features I want, with cost. Both the fancy Liberty and P40i both seem to be less so in this regard, given the considerable premiums over A40. I'll be keeping my P40i around, as it's still a better-than-average earbuds..., but they'll be more on backup / loss duty, than daily / sports use. TL;DR: Pros: Amazing bass response for the price; nearly all the bells and whistles available in the P40i for much less cash; nearly identical and very brief charging times vs. P40i; better fit in my ear canals in all situations -- did I mention it's less cash upfront? Cons: 2H less battery life on a single charge; some options like control of normal/transparency/noise cancellation aren't customisable for each earbud, selections apply to both earbuds Get the A40. Or get two, as I'll be doing soon, so you're never interrupted on the road :D --- UPDATE 30 OCT 25: So after 8 mos of near-constant use, >6 hrs in-ears being common (regularly sanitising w/ 70% isopropanol on a cotton swab of course)... the black set bought in Feb '25, has finally given me its first real showstopping bug. Was watching a show on YT... when the sound would constantly become garbled then cut out completely, about once every 5 secs. Showed fully-charged both on my computer's BT dropdown, and when returned to case (via the 3 LEDs). Neither quitting / restarting the browser, nor turning off / on BT for the device, seemed to fix this. So returned the buds to their case and attached USB-C charging (which has worked problem-free all this time)... and after about 2 hrs, the issue stopped -- now functions as always... for now. I need to emphasise clearly, this Anker product has worked almost 100% flawlessly since taking delivery, charging, and using long hours, from day one. Can't diagnose what the issue is what caused this, would be pure speculation. But Anker tech products in general ime, are made to a standard refreshingly above what passes for R&D / QC, in PRC: all of the Anker products I own are either still working past 5 yrs, or have been replaced by more efficient, more capable generations of the same device, also working well (USB chargers / cords, power banks, audio). So am hoping this issue is a QC bug that wasn't going to emerge, until its age brought its own, non-negotiable limitations. In the spirit of full disclosure however, felt it prudent to report this, so one can prepare by buying another set; no tech lasts forever -- I already have another set on the way. Would also add, zero (0) of the 8 earbuds from various brands I've purchased over the years and used identically prior to this one, have survived to this age (8 months) before revealing real showstoppers -- flaws in design, execution, and/or QA. Zero (more like 3 - 4 mos). And all have been far more expensive than this gem of an A40, whilst giving the owner nothing in return for high premiums. Replacement set on the way. Despite this first gig... the product's designed and built like *all* tech should be -- not invulnerable (and costing accordingly) but made to last as long *as expected to*, resisting the forced-planned-obsolescence so many personal tech mfrs seem to addicted to for short-term profit. I'll reward Anker for their extra work making this tech not only better-sounding but more durable than the low-bar average, by buying again. Five stars, as long as content wasn't taken out of the model mid-cycle to save pennies -- that'd be a shame and end a long, well-earned loyalty to the company for me. Given Anker's business decisions and truth in products in the field to now... am much more confident this isn't the case, than for almost any other PRC tech brand ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ -- UPDATE 03 NOV 25: Received my new A40s, to replace one of the two original orders (battery life now inconsistent) Surprised and delighted to find Anker's updated the earbud cups: they now extend slightly further into the ear canal by a couple of mil. Wearing them in the correct cup size as the originals... can feel no difference in comfort, but retention is noticeably better, feels as if more 'contact patch' in my ear canal. Looking from the side, they are a bit more conical and less round than before. This fit, mentioned in the title w/ my first purchase... is even better now. Otherwise, all controls and performance are identical to before. Using the app to customise my sound, same surprisingly clear bass response w/ great mids and highs. Shouldn't expect $500 studio monitors for the price, but... well I did buy these 3x now, that should tell you all you need to know. Unchanged five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ -- UPDATE 12 NOV 25: These latest green A40s developed an unforced error tonight... very loud crackling static in the R earbud, luckily only in the two non-Normal modes (I don't use Noise-Cancelling nor Transparency, but cannot now if I wanted). Unfortunate, as both A40s purchased earlier were flawless in all modes throughout their service life. Both earbuds were fully-charged, only been using since the 3rd of November. Have to take two stars away, one for the flaw and the other for so-soon after taking delivery. Hope this doesn't happen in other A40s. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ _ _ -- UPDATE 13 NOV 25: Unfortunately, have to report another unpleasant problem with this latest green set of A40s: the ability to connect to two BT sources, is also malfunctioning -- it simply doesn't do what the first pair did without any prompting from the user. Don't understand how this newest set can have such significant problems, as my last two pair were so good, assumed this pair would be more of the same. Not going to take another star, as they're still usable and still take charge / battery life unchanged... but I should be getting what was advertised, if I pay for a brand-new product, out-of-the-box. Three stars for now ⭐️⭐️⭐️ _ _ --- UPDATE 06 DEC 25: Bought another set of A40s -- all functions normal, unlike the green pair. Anker has not reached out to me despite the rating going down. Will remain so until they do... Would like to add a tip that may help buyers to get the most out of these earbuds, however... When you receive your A40s, charge properly to full. Then using the Soundcore app, do the hearing test. However, instead of claiming you can't hear anything in the final hearing tone, just reply 'Yes' to all. Have tested this with my latest A40s -- if you answer 'No' to any of the tones at any volume, the earbuds will pull a *lot* of output from what you hear. Only answering 'Yes' to the entire hearing test, will unlock the frankly amazing sound these can provide. One or more 'Yes'es? Middling sound. All 'Yes'? The bass response and clarity are fantastic. Try it out :) --- UPDATE 08 JAN 26: The blue pair's L earbud just stopped working today -- now cuts out and makes static, tho passthrough and noise-cancelling work okay still. Man, the quality in these revised A40s are defo worse, in two purchases in a row. Am keeping the green pair since no audio problems and no plan to use either mode besides Normal... but buyer beware, when it's Strike Two. Returned the blue pair, as was still returnable. Will report on the replacement (another dark blue one -- currently Blue3) when it arrives in a week. Taking another star of course, for serial QC failure. Two stars, quite a fall from how I used to feel about them ⭐️⭐️ _ _ _ --- UPDATE 14 JAN 26: Disappointing -- Amazon provided the wrong shipping HAZMAT label which USPS refused to accept when trying to return for replacement... but also did not honour refunding the amt thru gift card method I chose, when chatting w/ customer service. So Amazon does not honour their own return policy on the A40s. Turned to Soundcore product support... and whilst they offered a replacement, they said their logistics partner does not ship to Hawaii, where I live -- they offered to send to somewhere on mainland US. This was not acceptable... and prior to what happened next, I had no choice but to lower their rating once again -- to one star. HOWEVER -- minutes after publishing that rating... Soundcore reached out to me, and offered to refund the purchase price thru Amazon. This restored my faith in a company I'd trusted over ten years for tech -- which was a great relief; I feel no joy downrating but also feel others should know when products or services here far below acceptable. Anker has been good to me in past, and I'm glad they stepped up and restored my confidence. Cannot full-five-star the rating, as two pairs of my recent A40s did indeed develop showstopper flaws to most people... but did not warranty-claim the green pair, as they're still functional for me (I don't use noise-cancelling, due to cognition effects of long-term use). So will keep rating to 3 for product, plus one star for customer service for total of four, one star below full marks. That seems prudent, truthful and fair. Four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ _
