You can just sit and watch the display lights dance across the whole spectrum as you listen to your favorite kind of music! My old Technics unit was good, but it didn't have the display. Will this work as a preamp also?** A: Definitely avoid Audiosource. I ended up buying a DBX 215 graphic EQ. I've used DBX equipment in the past and it's solid professional stuff. The 215 is a 15 band EQ which is designed for a rack system and for musical instruments but is slim and small enough to fit in with your home sound system. The only adjustment you'll need are 4 plug adapters that you can get from Radio Shack with an RCA female input from your stereo to a male standard guitar output. They're inexpensive, only a few dollars. I've had DBX for a few years now with excellent results. No distortion, just excellent professional sound quality. I bought it off of Amazon. You might have to go to the musical instrument section on Amazon to find it. It does boost the volume and sound but whether it would act as a good preamp I'm not sure. If so, which output do i use?** A: Normaly this is a pre-amp equalizer. You use the inputs for TV, CD player. Also the the monitor out from your reciever. So you can equalizer AM/FM radio. Plus other things that might be pluged into your stereo reciever. If you have amplified speakers. You can try it. Plug your external components into the equalizer @ the sujested inputs. Then plug your speakers into the Left and right audio out. The tricky part will be. Does your speakers have volume control? The left and right level controls on the eq200 are not volume controls. They are for balancing the left and right inputs for, eqaul distortion free balance.If you do have volume control on your amped speakers. You may find a mismatch with output/input ohms. The output impedance of the eq200 is 600 ohms. Im guessing the input of your speakers impediance is 4 to 16 ohms. This might play havoc on your volume control. Or cause distortion @ high volume. Your can try it. If your input jack is not the same as the eq200 audio out. You can get an adapter @ radio shack or stores like it.If you try it. I was a little hesitant due to the mixed reviews but decided to go ahead and order it. Set-up only took about 10 minutes. After adjusting the levels, I have to say it sounds pretty good! So far I haven't had any "sticky buttons" or buttons that don't work. Everything works fine. I will say that it lights up like a christmas tree but that adds to the cool factor. Overall very pleased with this EQ.
