It maintains soil pH balance and can be used year-round, including as an autumn top dressing for lawns and flower beds. Highly rated by gardeners, it’s a proven solution for transforming challenging clay soils into productive garden beds. ## Description Vitax Clay Breaker breaks up heavy clay soil, enhancing drainage and warmth to promote earlier crops. Formulated to improve workability without damaging pH. Review: Essential for clay soil gardens - Essential if you have clay soil. We had some landscaping work done in our garden and a small digger compacted the turf area, so much so I had to lay a new turf myself. This helped to break up some of the soil, even in the sub-tropical and dry summer we’ve had. I’ve since used it on flower beds with compost and in a matter of 3 weeks the soil is crumbly and friable. I intend to use it this winter on flower beds as frost is said to give it the best results (although for me, so far, the results have been awesome). Overall, would definitely recommend. The only point I would flag is it is just as cheap (and sometimes cheaper) in garden centres and DIY stores, so perhaps shop around. Review: Good Product - It does break down the clay but don’t expect immediate results and you don’t get much for money. ## Features - Improves drainage and enhances soil warmth to encourage earlier cropping - Will not damage soil pH - Can also be applied as an autumn top dressing on lawns ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B002ATLTE0 | | Best Sellers Rank | 7,265 in Garden ( See Top 100 in Garden ) 200 in Gardening Soils | | Brand | Vitax Ltd | | Brand Name | Vitax Ltd | | Coverage | Medium | | Customer Reviews | 4.0 out of 5 stars 695 Reviews | | EU Spare Part Availability Duration | 1 Years | | Global Trade Identification Number | 05012351090086 | | Included Components | VITAX CLAY BREAKER 2.5KG | | Item Form | Granules | | Item Type Name | VITAX CLAY BREAKER 2.5KG | | Item Weight | 2700 Grams | | Item form | Granules | | Item weight | 2700 Grams | | Liquid Volume | 0.85 Fluid Ounces | | Liquid volume | 0.85 Fluid Ounces | | Manufacturer | Vitax | | Model Number | VTX1360 | | Number of Items | 1 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | Part Number | 469718 | | Specific Uses For Product | Soil Conditioning | | Specific uses for product | Soil Conditioning | | Target Species | vegetables, flowers, lawns | | Unit Count | 2700.0 gram | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Vitax Ltd - **Item form:** Granules - **Item weight:** 2500 Grams - **Liquid volume:** 0.85 Fluid Ounces - **Specific uses for product:** Soil Conditioning ## Images ![Vitax Clay Breaker Soil Additives, - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81bclpyljzL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: When it says it breaks up the clay does this mean in essence destroys the clay so removing it from the soil so you have more soil and less clay?** A: Clay is a part of soil ( sand , clay and silt, depends on type of soil, and microorganisms, organic matter, water, oxygen etc. ) Calcium helps to turn hard clay soil ( very small particles) into bigger crumbs improving aeration and water percolation. This process is called flocculation. **Q: Would this work as a top dressing on a lawn?** A: Hi, The answer to your question is yes... but this will only be effective once the lawn has been aerated/spiked. I hope this answers your question. If you have any other queries please don't hesitate to ask. **Q: What's the difference between this and agricultural gypsum?** A: Agricultural Gypsum is Superior, has many more benefits, alias Calcium sulfate Dihydrate . TO cut a very long story short(don't want to bore you, I can write paragraphs about Agricultural Gypsum) It has Five major benefits that will improve your Soil. Buy Agricultural Gypsum, I highly recommend. **Q: When it says it breaks up the clay does this mean in essence destroys the clay so removing it from the soil so you have more soil and less clay?** A: No, it will not remove the clay, infact you would not want to remove the clay as it is very fertile. I don't know what this product contains I presume it is garden lime. Lime is traditionally applyed in the autumn and works by a chemical reaction called (flocculation) this reaction along with winters freezing and thaw this breaks the strong grip which is holding the particles together, quite scientific just look up flocculation and clay soils. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Essential for clay soil gardens *by J***R on 6 September 2018* Essential if you have clay soil.
