A: Depends where you mount them...but our floor level ones get tripped by the cat 

**Q: What is the size of the stick on magnet? Thanks**
A: The magnet on the unit is half an inch, the metal plate which attaches to  one 7 QUARTER INCHS

**Q: How far can it sense and react?**
A: We have ours in a standard hallway and it reacts from 8-10 ft away without a problem

**Q: Can this item be removed from surfaces?**
A: It has an adhesive pad on one side with a metallic surface on the other which you place in the desired position, the light with it's magnet backing then sticks to it.  If you wanted to move the light to another location you would need to use another adhesive pad.
