Thanks** A: I'm guessing that you want to leave the hoses in the tank and effectively separate the filter for maintenance. If that is why then you will need two separate pairs. If you haven't already bought the filter, have a look at the Eheim Pro 3 filters. The have a dual isolation built in so you just close the valve and press a button to separate from the hoses. The valve stops the tank siphoning out and just clicks back in after you perform maintenance / cleaning of the unit. They are bigger and cost more but they really are excellent. **Q: Will this connect directly to the actual plastic outlet pipe and then join to the flexible hose?** A: No. Just use a small piece of 12/16 mm ehiem hose then connect the two **Q: What is the difference between double tap and single tap?** A: Single taps only seal one side of the connector, double taps seal both sides of the connection. So, if you close both ends no water can escape from either side of the hose. For instance, if you had a chiller for your tank and put a double on both the inlet and outlet, you could disconnect the chiller without removing the hoses from the tank and none of the water in the chiller could escape when you move it. Their are no installation instructions so wasn't sure how the screw threads worked with the hose connected but managed to find a youtube video showing you leave them attatched , push warmed hose onto ends then screw nuts back down onto hose , creating a lock , which keeps the 12/16 mm hose from coming off ! Like most eheim products its well made but overpriced ! The quick unscrew disconnect works very well for me . I have a lily pipe permanently attached to my tank/some hose/this quick disconnect tap fot semi automatic water drainage . Would buy again . Can recommend . This is my honest opinion .
