## Description

Take your doodles to the next level with this best-selling and preeminent guidebook to the meditative art of the Zentangle. The Zentangle method was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas as a way to practice focus and meditation through drawing by using repetitive lines, marks, circles, and shapes. Each mark is called a “tangle,” and you combine various tangles into patterns to create “tiles,” or small square drawings. Featuring the incredibly beautiful and inspiring artwork of author Beckah Krahula, One Zentangle a Day is divided into six chapters, each with seven daily exercises. With every chapter, explore a different aspect of Zentangle: Basics and Enhancements Tangles and Value Patterns Geometric and Organic Patterns Understanding and Using Color Defining and Using Style Creating the Rest of Your Zentangle Journey Each exercise includes new tangles to draw in sketchbooks or on Tiepolo (an Italian-made paper), teaches daily tile design, offers tips on related art principles, and contains an inspirational “ZIA” (Zentangle Inspired Art) project that incorporates patterns, art principals, and new techniques. Drawing Zentangles is a relaxing and replenishing diversion that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. In addition to its soothing benefits, a Zentangle practice can also help with self-image, phobias, addictions, pain management, conflict resolution, and coping with grief . Step away from the daily hustle and untangle with a Zentangle.

Review: Great Guide to Making Your Own Art - Really enjoying this book! It is clear and easy to follow. It shares great patterns and step by step instructions for the different designs. It also details shading techniques and focuses on finding individual style and making your own art for your own joy. Highly recommend.
Review: Addictive! - Clear, easy to follow but be warned - this is addictive stuff! From the first day you can produce something worth looking at. You are gradually learning both a meditative technique and some real art skills. It's done gradually - ideas about perspective, tone, value and style are brought in gently. With Zentangle there are no mistakes. The weird pattern names seem a bit geeky at first, but after a while you realise they are there as a kind of shorthand and you do need them. I've attached what I did on day eight just to show how far I've come in a week. The kit recommended doesn't come cheap, though once you've bought everything it all lasts a good time. I'd recommend buying the real Zentangle tiles and using one each day - I am pasting my daily tile in a notebook as a record of my progress. It's also worth getting some cheaper ones for playing and using a sketchbook. If you are going to follow the book beginning to end you will also need black tiles, round tiles, inks, compass & protractor, several posh pens in black, white and colours and so on - it all adds up. However, you could have a lot of fun with just a fine pen, a soft pencil and a sketchbook, and maybe a white pen and a stump blender.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great book for the basics
*by B***R on 3 April 2014*

I have already bought this book 3 times and I end up giving it as presents. It's a great guide to learning Zentangle patterns even if you are not "arty". The patterns are graphically explained, there is not a lot of writing, but it is sufficient explanation and the images are clear and easy to follow. It takes no time to get going with your own variations, based on the patterns shown. Combinations are endless! Lots of inspiration in the images shown, you can use even the images that are part of the design of the book, on the side of pages etc. to inspire you. I soon found my self looking at patterns everywhere, door panels, ceiling rosettes, fabric prints, even the growth pattern of plants, and of course flowers. Old buildings are covered with interesting patterns that can be used to tangle. The V&A has hours of fun to offer in the patterns of their textile collections, as do most museums of art in London. You could say the Victorians invented tangleling... just look at any architecture from that era, and of course William Morris, his textiles are a great source o inspiration. A great book all around, I highly recomend it.
