I looked at lots of different coasters and finally picked these. The price was much better than the others that I looked at and I liked the idea of having a little stand to keep them in when I was not using them. When they arrived they were in a sturdy transparent plastic box so good if you wanted to buy to wrap as a present. I opened the box and was very pleased with the feel of the coasters and the stand. The rim and the back of the coaster is made of a solid piece of rubber wood and lined with cork in a recessed central part. The stand appears is also made of rubber wood. There is a little label that explains the origins of rubber wood. The coasters themselves are very smooth and reasonably thick, they give good protection against hot cups and as they are very even cups and glasses stand firmly on the coaster. I would like to fill inside with items in resin** A: The cork backing seems fairly well stuck doesn't just pop out I've had these mats for 2 or 3 years maybe even more they look like new I'm sure you could remove it though with a bit of effort not sure what the end result would be though **Q: Has anyone had problem with mug/glasses suctioning them if wet and lifting with glass as we have with normal coasters even cork?** A: This does happen occasionally yes. Only usually with glasses that fill the space almost completely though. Hope this helps. Also just FYI the ones that arrived to me a while ago weren't actually with this shape holder.
