I have looked for a geometry book a few times: it was the only part of maths I really enjoyed at school nearly fifty years ago. I loved the problem solving and the elements of pattern and shape that are involved: I was looking for a little bit of mental gymnastics to keep the brain cells firing. And this book fits the bill perfectly. If I knew or remembered nothing about the subject, then I think this might be a bit of a struggle, so I definitely don't think this is for the complete novice, but the knowledge and skills level is not incredibly high, certainly not aimed at an A' level ability that one reviewer has implied. It is clear despite one or two style glitches one experiences with US textbooks, but that's not a problem. Elements of the subject are introduced appropriately and with plenty of examples and there is definitely a sense of building one's knowledge and skills base. As a former teacher, though not of maths and science, I would certainly recommend this to anyone with a little basic mathematical awareness needing support with their maths at GCSE level. And as a 'fun' stimulus for anyone else! I'm sorely tempted to get the workbook! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good on proofs *by D***K on 27 July 2017* I'm a GCSE tutor and bought this to fill in a few gaps in my own knowledge and, in particular, to improve on proofs and the teaching of them. Having read the book now, I'm certainly a lot better - there are A LOT of proofs, meticulously explained! Only two problems really: first is that is a US book. Some terms/theorems are described very differently from their UK counterparts, which caused confusion here a couple of times! I can't deduct a star for that of course, but the one thing that did drive me mad, and did result in my skipping a few proofs, is that, SO often, the diagram was one page and the (often long) proof was on the page overleaf. A couple of times I photocopied the diagram page, but couldn't always do that, eg when reading on a train. If there is to be a further edition, *please* put the diagram and the proof on the same page - SO much easier to follow the proof than constantly having to turn back after reading each step. But, overall, the book did the trick. This dummy is now better at writing proofs, and better at explaining them. In terms of the level the book's aimed at, I'd agree with others and say that, really, the reader needs to be happy with at least middle-grade GCSE geometry and algebra to get the most out of this book. I think omplete beginners would very soon feel discouraged.
