Review: Expensive but def worth it for geology students - I have had a few different field notebooks over the course of my students and although rite in this rain is slightly more expensive than many alternative notebooks, the various bundled appendix pages they include make it def worth it. The book is well made, hard covered and held tightly by quality stitching. I cant comment on the ability to write in the rain (as I prefer not to ink in the field and choose to use a pencil) I can verify that the pages are water-resistant after seeing a friend drop their field book in a muddy stream. Additional ref pages include; dunham limestone classification chart, grain chart, 20 cm ruler and various sedimentary structure ref guides. Essential quick ref for students new to geology who are out in the field. Note: Rite in the rain make quite a few different models of notebooks for different industries/fields of study. As far as I am aware, 540F is specifically for geology and includes the relevant appendix pages.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Expensive but def worth it for geology students

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brilliant field tool

This book has been used by myself on a number of mapping projects and I couldn't ask for more! The book is A5 and fits inside most of my coat pockets which lets me free up my hands when taking measurements or moving between localities. Inside you'll find 136 pages for all your note-taking, both pages contain a header with location, date and project client lines so you always know where you are. The left-hand page contains standard spaced lines for writing, as well as vertical lines which create 6 columns, on the right-hand page however, is a set of grid lines that form clear graph paper. I tend to use the left for the majority of my notes and favour the right for logs, sketches, data collection and rough maps as the squares help me to translate scale from a visual scene onto my page, though if not needed for any of the above then it also works well for further notetaking. When using the right side for this, I tend to leave one line free in-between each line of notes, which allows me to write just as much as I would on the left side, if not more. The removable scale and orientation card at the back is wonderful for use in photos in the field and I don't know why I'd ever go back to my shoe, hammer or pen! At the back of the book is also a number of pages that are very useful when collecting field data and taking any field notes, this includes common abbreviations of terms, map symbols, grain size scales and a chart for estimating composition percentage - which is very useful if you have a hard time with these estimations and often find yourself off the mark.
