## Description

Review: A fantastic printer at a great price - I bought this to go in my student room, and it works perfectly - it prints clear high quality pages and is effortless to use. Setting up the WiFi using WPS was a bit of a pain, probably because I rushed it, but eventually all was connected and the connection has remained solid throughout a couple of weeks of use. The quality of the prints seems just as good as those from the more premium printer (also Epson) at my parent's house, and as good as the prints from my university's very large expensive office printers, so for under £40 it is truly a bargain. For the price the printer is fantastic, and the offer that gives 25% off Epson ink makes for a great saving - always make sure to buy official inks and not the cheap knock-offs, as there's no guarantee that they're compatible or of good quality.
Review: If you value your sanity, don't bother. If you can't afford £48 for cartridges every coupld of weeks - don't bother! - I bought this as a replacement for my trusty older SX235W that served me well until it needed an ink pad replacing after 4 years. The cartridges were cheap as it accepted compatibles and the scanner was great. I assumed that the upgraded version would be pretty much the same but I was wrong. The first one that arrived run out of ink after printing a few photos. I spend £36 replacing the colours with genuine Espson cartridges as all the ones I had for my other one no longer fitted. When I tried to replace magenta though the cradle stuck and I couldn't do anything. - It went back. The repacement came. We struggle to get any WiFi and it kept dropping out. Assuming it was faulty we sent it back, again. The second replacement came #3. After a week of following instructions, watching videos and seeking advice we even considered hiring an IT pro to install it for us.. We came here to look for advice and found that we were not alone. Also it only takes expsensive Epson cartridges. Basically a replacement of all 4 costs more than the printer and they don't last very long. After a lot of shouting and the printer almost taking flying lessons through the nearest window, valuing our sanity an to avoid stress this one is now going back too! I now have no useable printer. I am trying to find the one I had originally but it has been discontinued. Maybe Epson werent' happy that you could get compatible cartridges for about £2 each instead of 12 so have made it obsolete!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does it come with ink**
A: If it is factory sealed it comes with set up carts which have very little ink in them. Refurbished printers normally come with full inks, check the individual description.

**Q: Does this printer come with ink?**
A: COPIED FROM ANOTHER REVIEW HOPE THE INFORMATION HELPS!!

Don't Buy The T2981 (29) Its Only A Starter Cartridge Go For The T2991 (29XL) High Yield Cartridges.
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

When Epson sell you a new printer (Expression XP245) they only give you starter cartridges with it which hold a very small amount of ink in them T2981 black and the T2982/3/4 colour cartridges, Multi-pack T2986 (29). I used about 3 black and 2 of each colour cartridges last month and it was costing me a small fortune to run. I later found out that Epson do a higher yield version of the T2981 & T2982/3/4 cartridges which cost only a few pounds more but hold more ink in them than the starter cartridges which I was using before. What you need is a Epson T2991 on the black which hold 11.3mls of ink rather than the 5.3mls of ink that is in the T2981 black starter cartridge and on the colours what you should be using is a Epson T2992/3/4 which holds 6.4mls rather than the 3.2mls which is in the T2982/3/4 colour starter cartridges, Multi-pack T2996 (29XL). I can even go one better, I now use a company called advantage online who stock the Epson originals plus do a British premium compatible T2991 and T2992/3/4 cartridges which hold 17mls black and 13mls per colour cartridge but cost less than half the price of price of the Epson originals. I have used them a couple of times so far and have been quite impressed. I hope you don't fall into the Epson trap of selling a very good printer (XP245) at a very cheap price and then trying to charge you load of money for starter cartridges which are nearly empty...

**Q: Is this printer compatible with mac book pro yosemite 10.10.5 , what are the instructions of use if so ? many thanks.**
A: SIMPLY YES. I have a iMac ,a iPad and iPhone all of which talk to the Epson.By the way i have had many printers of the home variety, this is by far the best value and photo quality i have ever had.BUT, you must use Epson photo paper and inks(there is a separate photo black as well as a print black in the 625).I have compared good quality paper with Epson paper the difference in the final print is obvious. I also have bought the 335 for my son who loves it. Perhaps for the small cost difference i would go for the 625.

**Q: are there any cheeper inks available or have they "fixed it" so you can only use branded ?**

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Multi-function machine for a great price.
*by P***L on 21 October 2016*

I like this printer a lot. It's very neat, especially compared to my previous Epson printer. The on-screen messages are good and comprehensive. It's fast, especially on 'greyscale' setting for text only prints, and the print clarity is very good. Reviewers say it's flimsy and yes, some of the plastic pull-out parts are thin and lightweight, but if you handle a printer like you ought to, it's fine. I also find that the colours that it produces are more true to the original screen document. My old Epson used to print everything much darker than it should. So much so I had to 'lighten' screen pics to improve the print. Not so with the XP-235. The colours that come out of the printer are closer to what the screen shows. I bought Epson replacement ink cartridges after reading the scare stories about 'equivalent' inks clogging up the nozzles. I did use some non-Epson cartridges on my old printer and the nozzles clogged. OK the ink prices are more than the printer, but the printer price is so good, you'd have to go a long time before the overall running cost would become high. What else? well it's a photocopier - great, and a scanner.
