Some of the larger barbecues come with one ready installed, but rarely are they supplied on the smaller camping style barbies. I have a Weber Go-Anywhere, a Weber Smokey Joe and a couple of Clas Ohlson Move-It barbecues. These are all really great little camping stoves, but temperature control is a bit of guesswork so I thought I'd give one of these temperature gauges a try. I decided to install it on the cheaper Clas Ohlson barbie just in case I made a lash up of cutting the hole.I needn't have worried. After taping the area first, I marked up and drilled the barbie lid, pushed the sensor through then tightened it using the supplied wingnut.It works really well and allows me to check on the internal temperature during cooking. I can add charcoal when necessary during the cook should the temperature start to fall. Now all I need to do is buy one for each one of my little barbies. The thermometer on my cheap little smoker had got condensation inside and started to corrode - I did not particularly trust it it to begin with as it resembled a kid's toy. This one is a standard size and is a simple replacement with no messing around. The metal is a shiny steel / chrome finish which feels substantial and does not feel like it will flake / peel apart. Have compared it with a manual thermometer and an infra red point and shoot and it seems reasonably accurate. Will hopefully get to use the bbq over the weekend to see how the thermometer compares to a probe temperatureI haven't installed this to the BBQ yet but wanted to provide clear photos and dimensions for those considering to purchase this.
