It keeps your hood in place. For how long? I will have to get back to you with the answer if or when it fails. Finding a spot on your hood to install this product is important for it's functionality and appearance. I wasn't cool with the fact that I had to drill into my carbon fiber hood so finding a product that didn't compromise the hoods integrity by drilling out too much material was very important in my decision to purchase this product.
