This fascinating enclosed world contains 7 to 8 marine shrimp, algae and micro-organisms. Made from hand blown glass, each EcoSphere is a completely enclosed, self-sustaining little world. The EcoSphere only needs indirect light and comfortable room temperature (between 60F and 80F.) The EcoSphere works on the basis that a closed system recycles its nutrients and does not produce excess waste. The shrimp consume the algae and micro-organisms and they, in turn, break down the shrimp waste. External light, either artificial or natural, keeps the algae growing. There is no feeding or water changes required. Each EcoSphere comes with a replacement, recharge or upgrade policy. How do I know the transport will not affect them?** A: We have been producing and selling this product since 1986. We have custom designed boxes that insulate and protect the EcoSphere in transit. All shipments are made by overnight air service. The packages leave our facility about 3:30 pm and most are delivered by 10:30 am. FedEx is very familiar with our product and takes great care of our shipments. Any motion the EcoSphere experiences is like a little wave in the ocean, not a problem at all for the shrimp. **Q: Is there a flat bottom on the sphere or does it have a stand? Just trying to decide between pod and sphere** A: It has a flat bottom, and doesn't want to roll. It's fine without a stand. It's pretty heavy for its size, and it has a low center of gravity, so it wouldn't be easy to roll it over. I have it on my wooden side table, and if I push it, it slides across the table instead of rolling over, so that's a good thing. Not sure about the pod, though. **Q: will this item last 3-5 days shipping and will that affect my warranty/guarantee?** A: The Ecosphere is shipped directly from the manufacturer using priority overnight service and arrives in a well insulated box. **Q: How well does the ecosphere tolerate being shipped?
