My grand daughter has a very wide foot.** A: No, do not run wide. The are true to size - standard. However, they are made to stretch and flex. The rubber around the foot has to be tight, to stay on while swimming. They are generally more difficult to get on, but excellent at staying on. **Q: How do the sizes translate to actual shoe sizes?** A: These run small. I always buy a 39 or 40 in Euro sizes, but these -- 36 - 42 Euro -- are too small. Had to return them and get the next larger size. **Q: Why do these come covered in slimy stuff?** A: That will come off once you use it the first time or you can wash them off with some liquid detergent. It is a coating the fins come with to keep them from drying out and to keep their bright colors to look good for retail sales. It will not interfere with its wear. Which size will be?** A: If you are talking about a size 7 in mens shoes, which is like an 8 or so in women's shoes, then get the L MEN 7-9. (Does he has fairly large feet for his age?) I keep buying them because I have high feet and they fit me good.
