A2 tool steels can be deep hardened in order to minimize distortion. Different grades of tool steel have different characteristics depending on what kind of tools they are being used for. **Q: The pieces are magnetic?** A: Yes, they are definitely magnetic. They have the perfect amount of magnetism: not overly strong, not too weak. Bought mine in May 2016. **Q: What is the size of the hex end? Is it a standard 1/4 inch?** A: I do not have one yet but from looking at the drawling... The HEX side of the bit looks twice the size of the shaft which is 2.5mm & looks about half the size of the holder that is 7.5mm so this part looks to be 4MM which is listed as the "Head Size". If you move up the tool you see another HEX which holds the "Head" holder. This piece looks slightly smaller then the 7.5mm so it would be a safe guess that this is the standard 1/4" tool size. I believe all of the answers have been correct for their understanding of your question. There are other brands that look almost identical and some are of similar quality and many are of far inferior quality. This is a great set and I never realised how much better the magnetic bit holder is, compared to the ones that hold by friction, with a small ball bearing. I used to think that the magnet may interfere with the electronics so wasn't too keen on using them in the past. However, the magnet seems to be in the right place and strong enough to hold the bits perfectly, without affecting any electronics and now I much prefer this type of bit holder. What would I change about this? The black plastic in the middle of the handle. What is that about? Seems pointless to me. Other than that an awesome screwdriver with a great variety of useful bits. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nanch precision screwdriver set *by A***R on 15 August 2020* I purchased this set because of other reviews saying that it was of good quality and I wasn’t disappointed. The item arrived early and in good condition, I thought that perhaps the plastic box may arrive damaged but I need not of worried. I was a little concerned that this was shipped from USA but I need not have worried.All the other precision screwdriver sets on Amazon look almost identical with a lot of good and bad reviews which made me rather sceptical about how well made these sets really are. I personally would rather pay more to get a quality set. The screwdriver seems well made and the end rotates smoothly also at the other end the bits are held in place by pulling the collar slightly away from the body, which is sprung loaded and returns back to original position. This end also extends out to allow to get into awkward areas. The screwdriver bits themselves seem to be well made and I am very pleased with my purchase.
