This can be solved without a repair or RMA be changing how the rider rides and ensuring the foot sensors (buttons on the footpad) are consistently activated. 1) Ensure they are NOT touching the plastic in ANY way and that 100% of the weight is being transferred ON the foot pedal buttons and NOT the frame! 2) Have the child widen their stance so the feet are on top of the protruding buttons (that’s where the foot position sensors are located) It is common for younger riders to "curl" toes and this transfers the weight off the buttons and onto the frame, please avoid this behavior. When you T8 starts beeping, please discontinue riding and charge the unit completely before attempting to ride again. It's also for an 8 year old, she's not using it to commute around town, and she doesn't have a smart phone, so I didn't want something with bluetooth and a bunch of things she wouldn't need/use. After doing loads of research, I took a chance on this one. It was a bit more than what she was originally looking at, but again, I didn't want something that would break after a few uses. I decided to take a chance on this one, and I'm completely happy with it.Pros:Keeps the charge for a good while. I only have to charge it every few days. She rides it outside, rides it around the block when I walk the dog, and pretty much every chance she gets. I just need to put it on the charger every 3 or 4 days.It lets off a beep when the charge is getting low. This is good in case we're away from the house because it weighs about 25lbs. (more on that in a bit.) So if starts beeping saying the charge is low, we'll head home. It's not something I want to carry for blocks. Side note, if you are going a little too fast, it will also start to beep as a warning that you're reaching top speed (7 mph) so be careful.It's very sturdy. During her initial learning curve, she went a bit fast and jumped off and the hover board went rolling down the street. Aside from a few nicks and/or small scratch, it was perfectly fine. She was able to jump right back on and continue, this time a little slower.There are skins (decals) for it. My daughters first choice was another hover board that was very colorful. I wasn't sure about the quality of the hover board. This one is all black, but you can get skins for it and customize it to your taste. She picked out something with a myriad of colors and is extremely happy with it.Cons:It's not really a con, considering that the weight is because the battery is encased within a metal frame, but it does weigh about 25 lbs. So make sure it's charged if you plan on going out for a long ride. You don't want to have to carry it all the way back home if it runs out of juice. It's not extremely heavy, but a little cumbersome because the two sides act independently to turn. The manual says you should get about 5 miles out of it on a full charge. She hasn't gone that far on a single trip yet.Overall:She loves it. It took about 10 minutes for her to get her balance and ride slowly. About 20 - 30 minutes to get pretty confident and after a couple of days she was bolting up hills, spinning around and dancing on the thing. It does say that it will hold approximately 187 lbs give or take. I weigh 170 and gave it a whirl. If you're about 170 or more I would probably opt for one that can carry a heavier load even though I wasn't hitting the max. It is loads of fun though.Final thoughts:My six year old is learning to ride it, so I see a second one in my future pretty soon. I would suggest making sure kids have protective gear on, helmet, and wrist guards at the very least, knee and elbow pads for further protection. At least in the very beginning if they are new to this.I am really happy with this, and have no complaints. We followed the instructions on charging and were excited when, after a very brief time, the charge light turned green to indicate a fully charged battery. We unplugged the hoverboard and my son started riding it right away. He adapted to it very quickly and LOVED riding it. After what seemed like a relatively short amount of time riding the board around the house, the battery died. We plugged the board back into the charger, making sure to plug the charger into the outlet, and then connecting the charger to the hoverboard. The light on the charger turned red to indicate charging, and we assumed all was good. After about 5 or 10 minutes, the charger light turned green. I knew that the board couldn't have charged fully in such a short time, so I decided to watch the charger light. It was then I noticed that the light on the charger was constantly fluctuating between red and green, about every ten seconds.I figured something was wrong with the charger, so I contacted Swagtron customer service via their website. They were incredibly helpful and also figured that there was an issue with the charger. They quickly sent a new charger in the mail. I plugged that one into our board and was initially excited when it seemed that the charger was working properly. The light on the charger was red to indicate charging and seemed to stay that way for about an hour, but after an hour it started flashing between red and green like the first charger. The board appeared to be receiving some charge, and when that happened my son would ride the board and loved it, but then it would die relatively quickly and we'd try to charge it again.I again contacted Swagtron customer service and explained that we were experiencing the same issue with the light on the charger fluctuating between red and green, making it so that we couldn't tell if the battery was charging fully, and they offered to repair the board. I just didn't trust the long-term reliability of a hoverboard that wasn't working properly when brand-new. Since we couldn't seem to achieve a full battery and had no idea how much of a charge it was actually receiving, I decided to return the board.I'm giving it two stars because when it worked, my son loved it. But I couldn't give it any more than that because a new product out of the box, with an "inspected" sticker included, should work reliably. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Widespread issues with battery charger *by J***D on Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2020* Ordered this item twice. The first one would not charge. No light on the charger to indicate it was charging and the hoverboard wouldn't turn on even when the charger was attached. After researching online, I figured the charger was bad and sent the whole unit back for a replacement (more on the charger later).A week later the replacement unit came and the new charger would charge for about 10 minutes and then indicate that the battery was fully charged with a green light. But when you powered on the board, it would beep over and over indicating the battery level was critically low.I contacted Swagtron support and they determined that the charger was faulty and then told me that they are out of stock for replacements. That was it. They were just like, "We don't have any replacements. Is there anything else we can assist you with?" Sure enough, I go to their website and most of their chargers are out of stock.The other thing about this particular model is that the charger and the charging port are unique. The port has only 2 pins, rather than the standard 3 pins. I searched the internet and was not able to find a comparable third-party charger. You can even type the model number of this unit's charger into Amazon's search box and it will auto-fill the correct part, but even Amazon doesn't carry that model. So any plans to use a third-party charger won't work.I ended up returning this product.
