Knife appendage is very sharp so be careful. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Overall nice, solid construction, but the blade might not hold up. *by B***R on May 13, 2025* This is a pretty nice survival spear, and I use that term reluctantly. I'm one for using the right tool or the right job. I think you “could” throw it, but I don’t think you would want to; to me, this is a thrusting weapon or lance that is better suited at keeping a charging hog or maybe mountain lion at-bay, I’d use it as a last ditch on a charging bear. The reason I say that is the double side blade is thin and has a wonderful taper and grind, but it has a section of serrations on both sides of the blade and that it's weak point. I wish I had the money to test them to quantify my point. The staff is balanced, which for me, would not make a great thrower, I have a different spear with a point-heavy front end that does/is. For just a basic walking staff, this might be a little heavy but not too bad. The machining is nice, and the screw joints seem tight; might have been a nice touch to machine an o-ring groove at the joints because you have a lot of space for survival goodies. I do like the machined stainless steel tubing; the knurling is deep and grabs your hand. Again, as for the weight, I think you'd have to have training as a Spartan to throw this with any, distance, force, or accuracy; overall I think the length for a throwing spear is okay, but again, because of the very thin blade I still think it’s going to snap at the serrations. Though with the long taper you would have great penetrating weapon. Since I got this as a walking staff; it comes up a little short for my taste and I’m only 5’ 6”; so, 45 inches is a little small. I heard a general rule-of-thumb that it should be as tall as your shoulder so, I bought two; now I put them together and made a nice long staff minus the second blade. It’s nice with the top tube covering the blade, some people might be afraid if they see someone walking around with the blade showing. It would be slow to deploy the blade, so after you get away from the general public you could remove the cover tube from the blade. Really my opinion is mostly hypothetical never being is a situation with a charging boar. The construction is excellent, and I think it’s an overall good product at a fair price, but like I said before, I don’t think the blade is strong enough to withstand continued throws into a tree for practice; maybe a deer archery target, but even then, I don’t think the torque on the blade would make it long. I guess too I should say something about the transport bag; it's well made and a nice way to carry it, so the sections don't roll around your vehicle, a great "Extra to Have".
