### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brilliant for porcelain exterior floor tiles
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 26 May 2026*

I have porcelain tiles of 20mm thick on an adhewive base on top of concrete. I tried tungsten tipped drill bits that supposedly do porcelain. After 20mins, lots of water I was about 2mm down. I used twist not hammer as worried about cracking the tile. Tried these instead. On a normal DIY drill on a twist setting (not hammer) it cut through the tile to the base in 40seconds or so. The drill bits are not long enough to go much further which is fine as I will use a masonry drill into the concrete base using my SDS heavy duty drill. The drill bits are full of wax that melts as you drill causing cooling. I was able to drill through the tiles without stopping though it may be prudent to pause. Don't know how many holes per drill bit is possible. As I have a total of 8 holes to drill (to support two aluminium fence posts), I will probably use 2 bits to be conservative. Believe they could do more providing that there is still enough wax in the middle. Excellent product for what I needed.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It did the job
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 12 October 2024*

Ordered this to try and make a hole in a 38mm stone paving slad , glad I bought it , it easily cut through the slab with the use of water to cool it down , went through in a matter or minutes (did have to tap with a hammer as didn't go all the way through , about 1mm short) .. did not loose any of the diamond coating so not a single use item ..Only problem is it's tricky to get started ... but once you do it's a great bit of kit and great valve for money

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seemed to work as expected.
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 4 July 2026*

This is a review of a single bit, used to expand some existing holes.THE PROBLEM:About 8 holes already existed in hard, early 1900s brick. The holes contained plastic plugs that, in turn, contained snapped steel screws. In order to re-use the holes it was necessary to extract the screws but they could not be drilled-out with a percussion bit, nor could they be dragged-out with pliers, because they had snapped below the surface.THE SOLUTION:One of these diamond-coated core bits was locked in the chuck of a battery-powered drill and used to create a new hole, larger than the existing hole but on the same centre. Getting the hole started in the right place required some care but was not very difficult. After getting the hole started in the right position, it was deepened until the screw and mangled, melted bits of the plastic plug were inside the core of the bit. The plastic plug melted because of the heat. After the plastic plug remnants cooled and solidified it became possible to extract the drill-bit, and bring the plug and screw with it. Ta-da! The hole could then be cleaned and a fresh, larger, plug was inserted, ready for a replacement, larger, screw. A single bit was used for all eight holes.THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:(*) The wax within the core will melt and will be pushed backwards into the chuck.(*) As with all core-bits, the core will get clogged, and is not very easy to unclog. I found that it was best to increase the depth in quite small increments and remove debris often. Unlogging requires the bit to be removed from the chuck so that the ejected wax can also be removed from the back of the bit.(*) I managed to use the same bit for all eight holes but after the eighth hole I was unable to unclog the core which means that the bit can now only be used to expand existing holes of slightly smaller diameters. It seems I unintentionally created a an extra-tough composite material, formed of brick and plastic, and possibly some ground steel. However, the diamond coating of the bit had not worn away so if the bit had not clogged it would have been possible to keep using it.OTHER THOUGHTS:It wasn't clear to me why the bits are supplied with wax in the core. If you need to water-cool the bit, you might need to remove the wax first, because if you are water-cooling the bit, the wax it won't melt and get out of the way of the material that needs to go into the core. Without cooling, the wax melts in the friction-induced heat and is steadily pushed backwards into the chuck. This implies that the chuck must have space into which the wax can be ejected.BOTTOM LINE:In this limited use-case the single bit I deployed did what needed to be done, and I was very satisfied with the outcome.
