Rooting plants works perfectly for filling feeding/breathing opening. It’s just a little too big for me to feel comfortable.Beautiful real glass is easy to clean. The led light is white (my picture looks purple). The bowl sits on the base. Very nice simple 3 piece design. Keep slightly under filled, as seen in the picture. When we got to the pet store to talk about setting up the bowl and adding a Betta, we found that Betta fish don't do well in .5 gallons, and that they need a heater and filtration in order to stay healthy & happy in the long run.
