That said, I’d recommend having a few extra supplies on hand: a razor blade to remove caulk, a Brillo pad (or something similar) for cleaning, and some mineral spirits for the epoxy application and cleanup. The epoxy step was a little tricky—especially when it came to drips on the edges—but manageable with some patience. One technique that worked really well for me was using a water bottle to spray and blend the veining. I used the water to blend edges more than the brush. It helped create a smooth, natural look. All in all, I’m very happy with the outcome and would definitely recommend this kit if you’re looking to refresh your countertops on a budget.

A: Giani may be used on wood. The key is to ensure that your wood surface is as smooth as possible before starting. Plywood is a very challenging surface because its natural wood grain will typically telegraph through the final finish. As an alternative, you may use particle board or MDF board. For wood surfaces (this includes real butcher block, not laminate that looks like butcher block, and unsealed wood trim or countertops), be sure to apply one or two coats of a good wood primer to the particle board or wood surface before applying the Giani primer. Apply the wood primer with a foam roller for ultra smooth finishes because thicker nap rollers will leave a textured finish.

Very impressed with this product! This was my first time using anything like this, so I definitely did my research and read through the instructions more than once before getting started. I honestly expected it to be extremely difficult, but it was much easier than I anticipated!! Aside from making sure you do the prep work correctly, I would say applying the epoxy is the most important and slightly intimidating step. Even that, though, was nowhere near as difficult as I expected. The finished result looks absolutely incredible, and I’m so happy with how it turned out! I would absolutely recommend this project, even for a first-timer, and I will definitely use it again if the need arises.
