After around the 2 year mark the actual pad on the Vespula starts to wear down and get "scratched" from constantly quick mouse movements due to it being made of a plastic-like material. The V2 is top notch and is way better overall, but may suffer from the same wear to the mouse pad (due to being made of the same material, albeit a little nicer). The color has moved to a flat mat black (which I love compared to the neon greens the Vespula had), the pad itself is bigger, the gel wrist guard is not too soft, but not too hard, and it extends the length of the mousepad (The Vespula only went 3/4 of the way), and the shape is a square now (the original Vespula was oddly shaped with a rounded bottom, indented top, etc.). Overall this is definitely a step up and is stylish enough to make any desk look amazing. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very nice! (except wrist rest) *by W***N on October 11, 2020* THE GOOD:- Great product concept, love having both options.- Mostly use hard surface. It's easy to clean (does not attract any smudges or gook after several weeks!) and extremely slick/effortless -- noticeably less arm strain since getting this and the slippery Basilisk Ultimate. Had a cheapo aluminum pad before and my teflon-footed Basilisk is somehow even SMOOTHER on this thing.- Nice looking. A lot of products (especially from Razer...) are way too blingy for me, whereas this one just looks high quality. It invites non-nerdy types to walk up and try a mouse on it out of curiosity. Could still do without the goofy snake triangle logo, but it's subtle as possible.- The corner feet stick great (on glass). Have to realign a corner 1-2mm about once a week, much better than any other device on my desk.- Software for my Razer mouse already has this mat pre-"calibrated," hard and soft sides.THE BAD:- Wrist rest causes me instant pain. Not an expert, but was a volunteer ergonomics assessor for my workplace and took some classes on the subject in school, and my recollection is wrist rests should NOT touch the wrist during operation: ANY contact/pressure on the wrist tendons = inflammation = eventual pain and long-term issues. It's meant to be somewhere to truly "rest" your hand in between mouse operations, like those little dishes you set coffee/tea spoons on when not stirring. Maybe that's outdated or misremembered info, but the constant pain I feel using this was real. I have a height-adjusting desk and tried numerous settings with the desk/mat below wrist, level, above. All hurt rapidly when palm-gripping the Basilisk and a taller Logitech MX Master... perhaps if you claw-grip all the time (which sounds like its own ergonomic nightmare) this could be used the proper way. Razer, you have a great design with the rubber mat under the rest/mat and a nice clean design -- just consult with medical / ergo professionals to set it to a good height, don't design it the way us average people "think" it will help. You want us to be able to buy your products into old age right??THE UGLY:- For you OCD cleaners out there: one set of corner feet will always face up and turn gray/dusty. Can't just wipe or even vacuum-brush it off, need a damp cloth.RECOMMENDED?Definitely! Nicest mat I've ever used on hard side, and love having the fabric option when needed. Just don't buy it for the wrist rest... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great mousepad with a short lifespan *by M***E on September 16, 2019* I owned the original Vespula for years and completely wore it down so when I saw they had a V2 it was a no-brainer to buy one. It's by far the best mousepad I've ever used, the most comfortable as well. However, I use the fabric side exclusively and now after only a year there are scuffs in the material where I use the mouse which causes it to randomly not track.Obviously this is a huge problem for any kind of gamer and a very frustrating one. My old Vespula lasted for years, this one has barely made it to one and when I hit a scuff or a bubble at the wrong time it's the most irritating thing the world.
