It will not make a difference to the tracking on off centre pressing but is a great help for warped records as it forces the record to make even contact with the platter all round. **Q: Is this suitable for a Thorens deck?** A: Although I never owned Thorens decks, I think it should be suitable. Before buying just make sure your spindle is not too short as it needs to clamp securely on to it. **Q: What is the diameter and weight?** A: The diameter is almost precisely 880 mm or just under 3.5 inchesIt leaves a guessed length of 6/7 mm of outside label uncovered on my 12 inch vinyl. but I can't measure this.The item weighs 2.5 oz - measured with digital cooking scales so not super precise. Another thing is that I never use the felt ring included. On the rare occasion I use this clamp I simply remove the large felt disk off my platter and place the vinyl on the glass platter before applying the clamp, which works fine. The little felt ring your supposed to use instead of your large felt/cork disk is useless, to me at least, by all means try it though.Bear in mind my platter is 100% flat and has no grip or ridges etc. i wouldn't use on a textured sufficed platter. There are no rough edges where it makes contact and has a mat/smooth paint.I do not understand how it actually clamps, can't explain it, suction? but it does. Sometimes it takes 3 attempts to get it to clamp but it works very well when you get used to it. The very few times it did pop off when I first bought it, it only jumped a tiny amount and didn't leave the spindle, talking about a 2mm pop height? Also, so far to my experience, if it is going to pop, it will do so as soon as the platter begins to spin.I find the best way to use it is to push with all five fingers around the edge where it slopes in an even pressure, and with your free hand, use index and thumb to turn the knob at least half a full turn, I often do 180 deg' x2 or even x3 (1 full and a half).I'm replying with as much detail as I can because it took me about 5 uses or more before I could put it on first time.. Clamps record on turntable so no vibrations are lost through the vinyl. I hear clearer music and stereo separation. Some records that I didn't listen to because they sounded too mushy sound great(punk stuff),a very warped record that was unplayable is playable(still very warped but listenable with pleasure). I'm very happy with this purchase, I'm hearing things I didn't know were there and some records are like different records. I'm thoroughly enjoying listening to things afresh. Simple. Only works with the thin ones as well, but you wouldn't need this on the thick heavier LPs.The product is five stars for me, does exactly what it's supposed to an is well made, won't break any time soon, very simple effective design.
