Monuments is short, very short. Only nine tracks, and only one is longer than four minutes. Still, what is here is good. It is largely a guitar focused album, but there are plenty of keyboards, just not at the expense of the guitars. The vocals are good, and the general feel of the album is not as mellow as Oceania, but more varied and dare I say it interesting than Zeitgeist. There are some good thumping tracks on here (Tiberius, One and All) and the slightly less so (Being Beige, Run2me). An early standout for me though is Anise! (the exclamation mark is part of the title). Oh, and it has Tommy Lee on drums. Perhaps it is a compliment, but he doesn't dominate the music, and this doesn't sound like a Motley Crue cross over. It just fits together. I guess the weakest point is the lyrics, but then those have been lazy for years in comparison with the glory years. But this is a different era and different album.
