## Overview

The PROXXON Precision Bench Drill Press TBM 115 is a high-performance, compact drill press engineered for micro drilling down to 0.5mm. Featuring a durable die-cast aluminum worktable, a solid hard-chromed steel column, and a quiet, long-lasting motor with 3-speed settings, it offers exceptional accuracy and stability. Equipped with six precision MICROMOT collets and adjustable depth and fence controls, this tool is ideal for professionals and hobbyists demanding meticulous detail in woodworking, metalworking, and electronics.

## Description

Product Description The unit offers a high quality machined work table of ribbed die-cast aluminum (work table size 8 1/2" x 4 3/4" (220 x 120mm)) providing an adjustable parallel fence with scale. The solid, hard-chromed steel column is 11" high (280mm) and has a diameter of 4/5" (20mm). The powerful motor, which is built into the super stable die-cast head of the machine, runs very quiet and has a long life expectancy. The power transmission by 3-step aluminum pulleys and flat belt provides 3 spindle speeds of 1,800, 4,700 and 8,500rpm allowing triple torque at lower speeds. The chrome feed lever has a practical adjustable drilling depth gauge. The spindle is essentially free of play as a result of the three high quality ball bearing assemblies. It is recessed for the insertion of MICROMOT steel collets, but also threaded for attaching drill chucks with 3/8" thread. The spindle has an extremely high rotational accuracy and a 1 3/16" (30mm) feed. The quill diameter is 1 1/4" (32mm) with return spring, the throat depth (column to drill spindle) is 5 1/2" (140mm). The unit provides quick coarse height adjustment of the headstock via clamp lever. The max. height (worktable surface to spindle end) is 5 1/2" 140mm). Technical data: 110 - 120V, 60Hz, 85W (0.115hp), speeds 1,800/ 4,700/8,500rpm. The unit comes with six triple slit MICROMOT precision steel collets in sizes 1/32", 1/16", 5/64", 3/32", 7/64" and 1/8" (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.4, 3.0 and 3.2mm). To clamp work pieces we recommend using either one of our machine vises or the X-Y table KT 70 to convert this machine into a high-precision machining center. From the Manufacturer Proxxon Bench Drill Press TBM 115 - This 3 speed drill press excels at drilling micro holes down to 1/64 inch (0.5 millimeters). The unit offers a high quality machined work table of ribbed die cast aluminum, 8-1/2 inch x 4-3/4 inch in side. It provides an adjustable parallel fence with scale. The solid high chrome steel column is 11 inches high and is 4/5 inch in diameter. The powerful motor is built into the super stable die cast head of the machine, runs very quietlyand has a long life expectancy. The power transmission by 3 step aluminum pulley and flat belt provides 3 spindle speeds of 1800, 4700, 8500 rpm. This allows triple torque and lower speeds. The chrome feed lever has a practical adjustable drilling depth gauge. The spindle is free of play because of the 3 high quality ball bearing assemblies. Spindle is recessed for the insertion of Micromot steel collets but also threaded for attaching drill chucks with 3/8 inch thread. The spindle has an extremely high rotational accuracy and a 1-3/16 inch (30 millimeter) feed. The quill diameter is 1-1/4 inch with return spring; the throat depth column to spindle is 5-1/2 inches. The unit provides quick coarse adjustment of the headstock via the clamp lever. Maximum height work table to spindle is 5-1/2 inches.

Review: An incredibly precise and high quality mini-drill press - Purchased this mini-drill press for wood ship modeling, which I have found to be essential to the craft. My only regret is that I did not purchase it sooner. The operation is very smooth and incredibly accurate -- down to drill bits less than 1 mm in diameter (purchased separately). The set of "mini" chucks allows for precise turning of each drill bit. This is a high quality dril press. Although pricier than other units, it has been worth every dollar I paid for it.
Review: superterrific drill machine - Smaller in size than I expected but still perfectly usable for my purpose (drilling PCB through-holes). Spindle and collet system run true enough to easily drill 0.3mm holes. I can't do 0.2mm or 0.25mm reliably but then I haven't bolted down the machine for extra stability like they recommend. Also I'm holding the workpiece freehand rather than clamping it down securely. In any case, this drill machine beats a dremel rotary tool mounted in their $50 drill stand by a large margin. Initially there was problem with the machine when I opened it to change the belt to the higher-speed setting. The "set screws" for the motor-side "gear thingy" were coming out and would clearly eat into the belt as it operated. These set screws are basically intended to stay "sunked in" on the high-speed track of the motor-side gear thingy. So I tightened them as best I could but when I turned on the machine, the centrifugal force caused them to roll back out and damage the belt. I explained my situation to proxxon support and thankfully they sent a new belt by express mail at no charge. I've taken out the set screws entirely and it seems to work OK so I'm not sure what they're really good for. If you get one with loose set screws I personally recommend removing them rather than trying to secure them properly. AFAICT, it's not easy to secure them because there is no "head" to these screws.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there a better machine vise compatible with this drill press ?**
A: Maybe, the Proxxon 24260 Precision Machine Vise for MF 70, you'll have to find out if it fits this drill press.

**Q: Does anyone know the part number for the replacment drive belt on Amazon?**
A: Just found the schematic on google, part # 28 128-02 = Drive belt. Call Proxxon and verify just in case.

**Q: My question is What's the advantage of using collets vs a chuck( item# 28122)?
My application requires drilling holes and milling PCB (fiberglass)**
A: A chuck is convenient for changing drill bits quickly. Collets generally have somewhat less wobble. So if you are going to drill a lot of holes all of the same size, go with the collet.

**Q: Is the proxxon 38128 tbm available with a 220v option?**
A: I have one in stock. 28128 Drill Press TBM 220v.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very well built tool for fine drill work
*by H***N on April 27, 2025*

I'm on the fence between 3 and 4 stars but I gave Proxxon the benefit of the doubt on this one. It's a quality drill press designed to do one thing very well and it does make precise holes using small drill bits. Plusses: High quality - very well built and very precise for drilling replicable holes can accommodate both specific drill bits for the mini chuck (1/32 - 1/8 inch size chucks are provided) and a universal chuck (not provided) quiet and smooth operation Minuses: definitely pricey for what you get; others have suggested including a vise and universal chuck would be nice for this cost Limited up and down movement (and hole depth possible), although this is expected for a small drill press, I would say. I find it difficult to precisely line up with the spot where I need the hold drilled. Overall, it's a keeper, but don't underestimate the amount of time it will take for precise positioning of your substrate to get a small hole where you need it. In the end I usually poke a small pinhole in my substrate and then take the drill bit down to the substrate to confirm it's in the right place before turning it on and drilling the hole. It's great when the vise can hold things in place, but that's not often the case with my substrates for r/c model plane components.
