Review: Great overview for those with no formal CFD training - I picked up this book after I ran into a particularly tough CFD project at work. I'd been a CFD enthusiast for a while, but was never exposed to it in coursework thanks to professors who believed more in strong (finite element) theoretical foundations than in practical (finite volume) experience. Conclusion: it's well worth the money. Perhaps more than any other textbook, Essential Computational Fluid Dynamics (ECFD) shines more for what it isn't than for what it is. This not a dense text filled with equations, proofs, obscure tensor references, and quantum leaps in understanding between pages as so many other computational methods in engineering books are. Rather, it's a thorough overview of the topic, aimed squarely at CFD *users* who want to peek under the hood as opposed to CFD developers or numerical methods theorists. The only prerequisites for reading are undergrad Fluid Mechanics I & II and graduate Partial Differential Equations courses, though it would help to have some formal exposure to (the linear algebra involved in) Finite Element Methods and basic Numerical Methods courses. My sole suggestion for improvement in a future version is addition of more linear algebra details (such as matrix structures) and an expanded discussion of RANS methods (e.g. Standard k-e vs. RNG vs. Realizable k-e, etc.). Considering that the former is the basis of nearly all CFD modeling and the latter are the most commonly used class of turbulence models, more on them would have been appreciated. However, just about every commercial solver offering RANS methods includes documentation on them, so that's not necessarily a huge omission from a vocational standpoint. As such, I award this book 5 stars and recommend it to everyone.
Review: A good first contact with CFD - As the book says, this is the basics, the essential. Don't expect to be a master after reading this, but it may arise your interest for the topic in a cool way. I think it could go deeper on details though, the author introduces you to the cfd but you MUST buy another book to make it for real, since its written on the cover "essential" i will not judge the book over this... Can be a real good choice in case u know nothing

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good book for beginner and skilled CFD engineer
*by F***N on September 27, 2014*

Very good CFD book. It's good for both CFD beginner and skilled CFD engineer. When I first took the CFD course, this book is a great beginner's book. I can learn the most useful and fundamental knowledge about CFD without going through the tough math proof process. And When I was doing graduate thesis about CFD, this book also gives me much help. Because it includes many new technology and scheme in CFD field. The list of reference literature at the end of each chapter is very helpful, I can find what I need.
