But having had a sudden mole infestation in the garden I had to give it a try.I watched the "how to" video several time and a few more I found on YouTube before following the instructions and setting them. I didn't buy the tunnel finding tool but used a large long handled screwdriver (40 cm long) to "feel" and locate the tunnels, I think it would be easier with the proper tunnel finding tool but not too hard without it. Once I found the tunnels I dug the hole and set the traps following the instructions. My tip for digging the holes for the trap is to use a spade that is as close to the length of the trap as possible. The first hole I dug was way too big to put the trap in, changing to a smaller spade made it so much easier.Once set I sat back and waited, not checking them every 5 mins was a challenge!. After 5 days and no sign of new mole hills or a mole in the trap I was beginning to think I'd scared it away. However a week after setting the trap I found a mole in one on the morning check.Felt a bit sad but that was the end of my mole problem.Overall a great purchase that does work if you're happy to follow the instructions and be patient. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is how I made the trap work for me. *by D***4 on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 27 January 2015* My first thoughts on this trap was that it is solidly built, well designed (it sticks to a tried and tested model) and it is relatively easy to set up. However until three days ago I would have struggled to say anything more positive.So what changed.Firstly I made some very minor adaptations to the trigger mechanism so that it is now literally on a 'hair trigger' this requires a bit of thought and a lot of care - especially when setting up to place in a tunnel.Secondly I watched/read yet more mole catching information and thought I would try a new technique.I searched for quite some time to find what I thought might be a main run. It turned out to run from the field at the back of the garden straight down the side of a footpath. This apparently is often the best place to lookI then made sure that this time I cut out the whole to almost the exact size of the trap. I then compacted the soil at the base of the run and fitted the trap so that the top of the trap was well clear of the top of the tunnel. then instead of covering with soil, turf or even a piece of slate (all tried and failed) I put a plastic plant pot on top, weighted it down with bricks and placed soil around the edges to give a seal.Bingo - I have now caught a mole everyday for three days, even though I do not think we had three active moles in the garden. I think they must be finding the run and following it.Whilst I feel bad about actually killing the moles it you make sure the trigger mechanism only activates when the mole is well inside the trap I am sure death will be quick. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you have moles, don't hesitate to buy these !! *by M***L on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 11 May 2017* Over here in the colonies : ' ) it's extremely hard to find a tunnel/Duffus trap, especially one of this quality. And before I continue let me emphasize that point:: OF THIS QUALITY. These are not stamped out of some wafer thin sheet metal with subpar, weak springs and wonky trigger mechanisms. No sir, these are BUILT like a brick you-know-what. In spite of their heavy duty construction, the trigger mechanism remains sensitive enough to be tripped by the little Rodent Hellions (aka moles).I've used the scissor/guillotine types before, mainly in the middle of the yard where they can be set. The scissor/guillotine traps, however, lose their effectiveness next to structures. This is where the Duffus traps especially excel, along driveways, sidewalks, and buildings.And I'll mention another important aspect of these traps: when the mole triggers the trap, that's all she wrote. Mole is dispatched quickly and humanely. Period. I would be amazed to find one trapped that isn't deceased, especially with these well-made traps.
