## Overview

The Akai Professional APC64 is a cutting-edge 64-pad RGB velocity-sensitive performance controller designed exclusively for Ableton Live. Featuring 8 touch strips, a 32-step sequencer, CV gates, and seamless USB connectivity, it empowers millennial producers and performers to deliver expressive, dynamic live sets with minimal screen reliance. Its robust metal build and ergonomic design make it the ultimate tool for both studio production and electrifying stage performances.

## Description

When the MPC60 launched in 1988, Akai Professional blazed the trail for a unique way to get hands-on with your sound, and the indelible groove created by finger drumming cemented a distinct, immediately recognizable style of beat crafting and sampling. The APC series of instruments married this model with Ableton Live’s hybrid studio/live-performance architecture to elevate the creative potential of the software suite, and the APC64 is the modern musician’s answer to Ableton Live-driven performance. An 8-by-8, RGB-backlit, 64-pad matrix includes both velocity sensitivity and polyphonic aftertouch, while a surrounding constellation of multi-mode buttons comprises detailed, comprehensive navigation and performance tools.

Review: Second hand - The box has already been opened. Really not serious
Review: Great Controller on the Bigger Side - Great controller! I was looking for a supplementary Ableton Live controller for performance and production, and this was a great fit. My main complaint is that it is on the bigger side, but that is probably so that it can accommodate so many features.

## Features

- 8 x 8 performance matrix features 64 pads masterfully optimized to control samples, clips, tracks, and virtually any live performance or studio tool within the Ableton Live architecture
- RGB-backlit pads provide paired-down visual parallels to color-coded in-DAW clips for focused operation with minimal screen time
- Performance pads are outfitted with velocity sensitivity and polyphonic aftertouch to ensure nuanced, versatile performance composition in any setting

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anyone gets it to work? I got 2 of them but it's not recognized from my computer. I tested 5 different computers including desktop.**
A: It may not work properly with any version of Ableton below 10. I'm not sure if that's the problem but I heard it online that it might not function with older versions of Live.

**Q: sirve para trabajar con sunlite2 ?**
A: Si

**Q: Can this midi pad controller work with GarageBand on Mac ?**
A: I think it could work with Garage Band but you wouldn't get the full functionality. Since it was designed to work with Ableton it has a specific "language" that makes the LEDs color correspond to the clip colors on Abletons session view. It's full potential is in being a controller to trigger clips in session view so in my opinion it would be a waste for any other DAW and you would be better off with a midi controller that's designed for a more diverse set of conditions instead of the APC mini which is so specific to Ableton session view. It's a one trick pony but it does its one trick pretty well.

**Q: Can the apc mini mk2 be used with software other than live? are the keypads / faders assignable to midi messages?**
A: Yes keypads and faders are MIDI messages and can be assigned to other apps.

### ⭐ Second hand
*by I***T on 22 February 2025*

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Controller on the Bigger Side
*by C***E on 12 June 2026*

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Il complemento perfetto per Ableton Live
*by S***D on 24 June 2026*
