- The Bowlsline system of comparing the horizontal distance between 2 verticals is a standardised method, easily understood and applied, independent of box size, bowl size, bowl position at rest and the skill of the measurer. This is the distance measured by Bowlsline laser measures. For a close measure it allows both ends to be set independently before tensioning the line. Removes any doubt and human error. - Conventional box string measures are inaccurate because they do not measure between the nearest points on the bowl and jack but from the string outlet of the box which is higher and nearer to the bowl. There is no standard box size and the discrepancy can be more than 1mm on close measures giving shot to the wrong bowl. The Bowlsline measure gives a repeatable result and prevents any human error. Why should the result depend on the ability of the measurer?

**Q: How would bowls in the ditch be measured?**
A: These bowls measures are excellent but are specifically for crown green bowls were bowls in the ditch are classified as dead.

**Q: All well and good for indoor surfaces but how good is on grass? And is it recognised by bowls governing body and umpires association?**
A: I think the seller answers the question about the legality of the measure,only tried it on short mat but cannot se any difficulty on grass,they are a bit fiddily to use but they do seem to be far more trustworthy than the ordinary ones, I am sure you have had trouble with people not putting the pointer in the middle of the wood or Jack,not tried it on grass as our green doesn`t open for a couple of weeks.hope this helps,John.

**Q: My Dad would like a new measure for Christmas but he wants one that can measure multiple bowls at a time. would this do that or is it just one line?**
A: This is a single string line, with the added bonus that both parts are flat on the green, carpet or grass, I have not come across a multiple string line, but the rules state you measure one bowl at a time so there is no need for a multiple string line in my opinion .
