## Overview

TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound is a premium 2-part marine-grade polyester filler designed for cosmetic repairs on fiberglass, gelcoat, and composite surfaces above the waterline. It cures quickly in 20-30 minutes, spreads smoothly without sagging, and sands easily with minimal shrinkage, delivering a flawless finish ready for paint or gelcoat. Ideal for filling pinholes, cracks, and surface defects, it comes with MEKP catalyst and supports tinting for seamless color matching. Perfect for professionals and DIYers seeking fast, durable, and high-quality marine repairs.

## Description

TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound drags smoothly, sets up fast, and sands like a dream for quick and easy cosmetic repairs on boat gelcoat, fiberglass, and other composite surfaces above the waterline. Premium thickened polyester resin fills, fairs, and feathers to perfection, so repairs blend easily into surrounding surfaces. This high-viscosity polyester marine filler is easy to mix with the included MEKP catalyst to achieve a smooth, creamy paste that spreads easily, feathers well, and sets up quickly, without sagging. In as little as 30 minutes, it cures to a hard material with optimal strength and easy sanding ability. It's easy to maintain a feathered edge while sanding thick or thin areas, so with very little effort (and very few sandpaper change-outs) you get a perfectly smooth, pinhole-free surface that's ready for paint or gelcoat. This lightweight cosmetic filler also has minimal shrinkage and less odor than traditional polyester fairing compounds. In addition, you can tint Polyester Fairing Compound with polyester resin-safe colorants for a closer match with existing gelcoat. Polyester Fairing Compound has many uses including composite tooling and repair applications, but is designed for use as a fairing material only. For high-strength repairs to fix deep gouges, cracks, dings, dents, and small holes, use TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty first, allow to cure, then apply TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound. If used below the waterline, Polyester Fairing Compound must be overcoated with an epoxy barrier coat primer. Compare to 3M Marine Premium Filler, FGCI Gelcoat Putty, Evercoat Polyester Glazing Putty, 3M Platinum Filler, 3M Platinum Plus Filler and 3M Platinum Select Filler. All TotalBoat products provide great value and great results. 100% made in the USA.

Review: Worked great - I laid down my track bike and needed to repair the fiberglass fairings. This worked great as a filler. It’s stuck well seems to be pretty durable and was not that difficult to sand.
Review: Easy to use! - I am an over 50 lady, and I (by myself), sanded the cabin tops of a older 45 ft sailboat down to the original clear coat (6 layers down). I prepped using Total Boat’s fairing compound, then sanded and applied 2-coats of primer (sanding in between coats with 250 grit). I applied very thin coats of this paint (mixed with the Total Boat thinner), let them dry overnight, and sanded in between using 250 grit. I applied a total of four coats (before the last coat I used 350 grit). This was not difficult to do, and I found that the paint applies very nicely. I applied it in S. FL, in the early spring (temps were in the 70s to high 80s). I did not brush tip it, just rolled it using high quality foam rollers. It was dry to the touch within 2 hours, and I always waited until the next day to sand. I also washed the cabin tops with soap and water after each sanding, and then wiped the surfaces down with a cotton rag dampened with the thinner before applying the next coat. The results are amazing! I found there was no need to brush tip as the paint spreads well and lays flat. But, I am a perfectionist, and also only mixed small quantities of paint at a time (<500 ml) and made sure to add additional thinner as needed. I will be doing the decks of this old boat next, and using Total Boat!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can i use this for my transom outer skin? Just finished installing new transom wood and need to paint the outer skin.**
A: I would use their two part epoxy “total fair” for that. I used it to fill very deep grain in my hull, and it’s great. The polyester fairing compound is difficult to know how much hardener to use, and some of it didn’t cure properly.

**Q: Can you ise this to repair boat flooring?**
A: You may only use it to fair (fill in small dips in the final laminate of fiberglass mat and resin, making the surface flat) before applying gelcoat or paint. This polyester resin is not structural, meaning it should not be used to repair, say, a rotted floor.

**Q: Can this be used to repair ABS?**
A: This fairing compound is used to fill in slight imperfections in a fiberglass surface prior to painting, gelcoating, etc. There is minimal structural strength with this product. It is not as strong as ABS and would not stand up to the environment that ABS can stand up to. This is especially true if the compound repair is not covered with paint, gelcoat, etc.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spreads like whipped cream, not enough hardener
*by M***W on January 16, 2024*

This is a great product, silky smooth and easy to sand. My only complaint is when following the label directions of 15 drops/1 oz product, there is not enough hardener supplied with the product. I purchased the Evercoat Liquid Hardener to complete the can (and my project).
