Review: Game Changer for Heat-Set Inserts in 3D Prints – If You Have a Compatible Iron - First off, these tips are a massive improvement over using a standard pointy or chisel soldering tip. The idea is simple: each tip is shaped to hold a specific size of threaded insert (M2, M2.5, M3, M4, M5, M6, M8), allowing you to heat the insert and press it straight down into your 3D printed hole. The compatibility claim with Hakko FX-888D / 900M / T18 style irons seems accurate – I use a Hakko clone that takes 900M tips, and they slotted in perfectly. I don't have a Weller SP40NUS to test that specific fit. The tips themselves seem reasonably well-machined. Using them is pretty straightforward: select the tip that matches your insert size, screw it into your (warmed-up) soldering iron, place the insert onto the tip (it usually holds it fairly well), then slowly press it into the pre-sized hole in your 3D printed part. The heat transfers through the insert, melting the plastic just enough for it to sink in. The key is a steady hand and not too much pressure. The result is a much cleaner, straighter, and more secure insert than I ever managed with a regular tip. It really does make the process feel more like using a proper press tool. I’ve used them for various PLA and PETG prints, installing M3 and M5 inserts mostly, and the difference in the quality of the finish and the strength of the inserted thread is noticeable. Pros: Vastly Improved Insert Installation: Makes inserting heat-set threaded inserts much neater, straighter, and more reliable compared to using standard soldering tips. Good Range of Sizes (M2-M8): The set covers most common small screw sizes used in 3D printing projects. Decent Compatibility: Fits well in popular Hakko FX-888D style irons (900M/T18 series). (Verify Weller SP40NUS compatibility if that's your iron). Better Heat Transfer Control: The design helps to heat the insert directly and efficiently, leading to a cleaner melt of the plastic. Inserts Held Securely (Mostly): The tips generally hold the inserts well enough to position them accurately. More Professional Results: Leads to stronger and more professional-looking threaded connections in your 3D printed components. Cons: Can Still Be Fiddly with Tiny Inserts: While much better, the really small M2 inserts can still be a bit fiddly to place perfectly on the tip and keep straight if you're not careful. Plastic Can Ooze (User Skill Dependent): If you press too hard, too fast, or have the temperature too high, you can still get some plastic oozing up around the insert. There's still a bit of a learning curve to get it perfect every time. Tip Material/Durability (Long Term?): They seem fine for hobbyist use. I’m not sure how they’d hold up under constant, heavy professional use, but for my needs in the UK, they're holding up well so far. Finding the Right Temperature: You'll need to experiment a little to find the optimal soldering iron temperature for your specific plastic and insert type to get the best results without overheating. One Tip Per Size: Obvious, but if you heavily use one particular size and it wears out, you’d need to replace that specific tip or the set. Overall: If you regularly use heat-set threaded inserts in your 3D printed parts and have a compatible soldering iron (especially a Hakko FX-888D or similar 900M/T18 type), these specialised tips are an absolute must-have in my opinion. They transform a frustrating and often messy task into a much more controlled and reliable process. The improvement in the quality and strength of your threaded connections is well worth the modest investment for the set. It’s one of those small tool upgrades that makes a big difference to the finish and functionality of your 3D prints here in the UK. Just take your time, practice a bit with temperatures and pressure, and you'll be setting inserts like a pro.
Review: Great product - I have never used heated inserts before, but recently bought a 3D Printer and now needed to buy some. I bought a cheap soldering iron and this threaded inserts tips and wow it is easy to use. I printed some test plastic blocks with different sized holes to test it out. The inserts heated up very quickly with this tool and they pushed in smoothly. I am very happy with the quality of these soldering iron tips and the little box is perfect for keeping everything together. Would highly recommended them.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works better than I expected
*by C***N on 31 December 2025*

Best set of heat press tips I’ve used yet. Being able to change the size without taking the iron apart is lovely. Just give it time to cool down. The fit of the main sleeve is snug on my iron meaning it doesn’t slop about and heating is efficient too. Have already used this set for most sizes from m2 right up to 3/8” of an inch (photo tripod thread). Which is everything I could want.
