Based on the DC/Vertigo "Hellblazer" comics, this film didn't get rave reviews but... in my opinion, it is a good film particularly as it was Francis Lawrence's directorial debut. Chain smoking demon hunter John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) survives a suicide attempt - a sure way to hell - and is asked to investigate a police woman's sister's apparent suicide. In so doing he will have the chance to put some demons back where they belong - the underworld - which should go some way to seeing him accepted into Heaven when he dies. The investigation brings him into contact with more than he bargains for. Brilliant acting by Tilda Swinton who plays the angel Gabriel.
