Covers are hard, textured unknown material, (cardboard?), with mild magnetic seal on the closure. Inside cover a flocked, velvety treatment. Kindle fits into a recessed well, snap-in, no bands to keep it in place. My e-reader is a fraction of an inch smaller, so to keep it from shifting in the housing, I have secured it in place with some cool-application glue dots. There is a slot in the bottom so the unit can be charged with the cover closed and the on/off button easily accessed.
