I have plugged this into an old laptop running a server. The existing laptop has a 1Gbit Ethernet port and I needed a 2.5Gbit for use with my file server which also runs off a 2.5Gbit network. This connects via USB-A and speeds are a fixed 2.35Gbit, which is what I expected to see - 280MB/s! Usual 1Gbit is around 115MB/s. There's an LED indicator to show 1Gbit connection or 2.5Gbit - and flashes when data is being used. It is compact but has about 6" of cable so you can plug it in away from other ports.
