Its purpose is to switch between Windows and Linux laptops: switching is fast, with screens and peripherals reconnecting in between 5 and 10s depending on number of connected items. So far, after a couple of weeks, it appears to be reliable without any screen blanking, overheating or need to reset it. Some things to consider: in Windows, it is very easy to hit the USB resource limit for a single controller with just two screens, webcam, speaker, mouse, and ethernet. In Linux (KDE/Wayland), the order of the two HDMI ports is not presented consistently. In both, it is better not to connect the laptop to the docking station until after it's booted, otherwise you will get an essentially random set of connected devices being presented to the computer.
