This is the main game in this long running franchise after X, which was heavily linear but which I thoroughly enjoyed due to its story and loveable characters. In contrast, the story in this game felt unengaging as I was thrust in a political conflict I am not invested in nor did I really I care about. The main character, Vaan, does not seem to have much personality and it seems that his relationship with the heroine, princess Ash, is incomplete or unfulfilled. For me, only a couple of characters were interesting than the others, which is a shame really. Graphically the game is one of the best looking games on the system and its music, in line with Square's previous titles, never disappoints. The world seems so big, which is a treat to open world and non-linear games enthusiasts. However, unlike, final fantasy X, the battle system here is real time and resembles mmos. It utilises the gambit system, in which you assign certain actions for your uncontrolled characters to perform automatically under certain conditions such as restoring your hit points once they reach below a certain threshold. While I am not a huge fan of real time combat, the gambit system felt like a fresh innovative mechanic. Also, there are very many side quests; nevertheless, having e a huge world does is bogged down by a forgettable plot and a weak protagonist.
