Simple easy to use product
Great Product. Very inexpensive and did a fantastic job on my light silver hair. Wanted a dark shiny gray and that's exactly what I got. Easy experience getting it done. Didn't take long and very pleased. Highly recommend.

UPDATED THOROUGH REVIEW OF MEDIUM COOL BROWN, 5C
Skip to 2nd paragraph if you want to review of the product. My edit/update is mostly about the allergic experience that I attributed to the salon semi-permanent color. On application and while "marinating", my head itched. After a few sessions with the salon color, the itching was CONSTANT. I blamed it on the salon color, and kept using my new favorite shampoo, conditioner, etc. It took awhile before I realized that it was the OLAPLEX PRODUCT LINE THAT WAS CAUSING THE REACTION. By the time I realized it, I had lost a lot of hair! I'm just spreading the word about that product line. There's a lawsuit, and they are refunding customers' money, but that's small consolation when your hair is ruined. This review is for the Medium Cool Brown, 5C. First: In my youth, I had very dark brown hair with coppery highlights in the sun. My hairdresser says that my hair is now 30-40% gray. (It's not really gray; it's white.) For several years, I've gone to the salon every 4 weeks. After 2 weeks, I'd touch up with Clairol Permanent Root Touch-Up, 4A Dark Ash Brown. It worked fine, but I hated the obvious new growth of white hair. So, about 6 months ago, my stylist and I decided to switch to a semi-permanent color, both in the salon and for my 2-week touch-ups. (The semi-permanent products I tried at home were Clairol Root Touch-Up Semi-Permanent Hair Color for Gray Coverage, 2A, Rich Dark Brown. The other was Clairol Permanent Root Touch-Up, 4A, Dark Ash Brown. The biggest difference between the two products is the application method. You can look at the product pages to see what I mean. Neither one lasted very long; my hair looked dull and washed out within a week.) Every time I got the salon dye job, my head itched for a couple of days. (I didn't have the same problem with the at-home touch-ups.) But last month, my head, neck and shoulders itched HORRIBLY for almost 2 weeks. Took a lot of Benadryl and swore off the semi-permanent salon procedure. (As mentioned in 1st paragraph, all this was caused by the Olaplex products I had been using.) NOW, FOR THIS PRODUCT REVIEW: I did a skin test 48 hours before coloring my hair. (I never bothered doing this before, but the allergic reaction to the salon stuff made me wary.) I mixed a tiny bit of the color and developer, and used a Q-tip to put a dot on my inner arm. Unlike other at-home dyes I've used, this stuff mixed up white/translucent. Don't worry. It turns color quickly. (Oops. Then I covered it with a band-aid because I'd made a dark brown splotch on my arm!) Buy a box of latex gloves! The gloves that come with these products are horrible, and for this particular product, I used 3 pairs. The 1st pair was for the initial root application. (The directions say to wait 20 min. from when you *begin* to apply the product.) The 2nd pair was for the next step, when I applied the color to comb through my shoulder-length hair. That step may not be necessary for future dye jobs, but this was a new color, and it claimed to have 3 different shades, so I wanted to apply all over. The 3rd pair of gloves was for rinsing and washing out the dye. The total time was 25 min., though in the past I've waited longer for better coverage. For the sake of research, I wanted to follow the instructions exactly. I used the conditioner that is supplied in the box. In theory, this MEDIUM cool brown is lighter than the touch-up products I've used in the past, both permanent and semi-permanent, all by Clairol. If we ever have a sunny day, I'll find out if the color is significantly different from the various "dark brown" dyes. For now, right after doing my hair, it looks really good. When I update this review, I'll let you know if the supposed 3-color highlights/lowlights thing is noticeable. Definitely an improvement over the semi-permanent products. I'll let you know what happens to the towels after a few washes. (I try not to wash every day, just condition, but it's summer and if I bike or swim, I have to shampoo.) MORE UPDATE: I am gradually moving to lighter shades of the same color. To go gradually lighter, change from 4 to 5 to 6 of the same color. Instead of using the touch-up versions, I'm just using the full boxes of dye. The range of colors is greater, and the difference in price is negligible. Eventually, the color will show up completely on the white hair that is growing in, and the still-not-gray will look fine. So the new growth of white hair is less noticeable than the demarcation line when I was using the darkest cool brown shades.

Great hair color
I love this color for my hair. Makes me look more Irish than I am. The color lasts quite awhile and the formula goes on well, not liquidy like some are. I have purchased it 3 times to keep them grays covered and does a decent job.

Grey Coverage Just OK
Overall, this is a good at-home hair dye. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the application process is straightforward. The color result turned out nice and close to what I expected. Grey coverage is just okay—it covered some greys but a few were still noticeable. The smell is quite strong during application, so it’s best to use it in a well-ventilated area. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, doing a patch test beforehand is recommended. My hair and scalp felt a bit dry for a week or two after coloring, so using a good conditioner or hair mask may help. Overall, it works well but has a few minor downsides.

CLAIROL NICE ‘N EASY THE BEST!
I don’t like revealing my “secrets” because perhaps my products won’t be available or the prices will get crazy but like to share with my fellow ladies! I am still using Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Permanent hair color after 30 years. I tried L’Oreal and a few other brands and they all burned my scalp and I end up with blisters and burns on my scalp. The other brands like Garnier, Revlon and Schwartzkopf just don’t color enough or right for me or they destroy my hair. Nice ‘n Easy prices can’t be beat especially on sale or with subscribe & save. I switch between blonde colors in the 9, 10, and 11 permanent colors. I use the ultra light, ultra pale, palest natural, and extra light blondes in 9, 10 or 11 only. I never do golden or ash because then my hair turns red orange or green with the ash. I have hair down to my low back and I always switch the colors because it also leaves different blonde highlights and colors in my hair every time I do the roots! It looks great and I always get compliments. I am leaving it on for as much as 45 minutes now with those horrible grays that are popping up but Nice ‘n Easy covered them up! Take that! I use subscribe and save and I switch between the colors for the cheapest between 9, 10 and 11 blondes because they’re all great! WATCH YOUR MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION PRICES BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT TRIPLES$$$ FOR NO REASON Every 2 - 3 weeks I do the roots and maybe every 3-4 months I might add it all over and/or the ends for 5 minutes only so I don’t dry my ends! I also order 2 to 3 per month at the cheapest price because it’s worth it just for the conditioner alone! I’ve seen the Nice N Easy Color Seal Conditioner sold by opportunists right here on Amazon for $22 per bottle! Forget about Ebay at $45 for two 1.86 oz tubes. Soooo definitely purchase Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Permanent Colors in ANY SHADE under $4 just for the CC+ (Color Conditioner +Seal)! Right? They are clear conditioners in the hair coloring box. SIDENOTES: I also add 5 drops per ounce of Ardell Red Corrector or Ardell Unred out drops occasionally to reduce any orange, red, or brasiness that sometimes occurs. I know people use the purple shampoos and all that expensive stuff $25+ for as small as 8 oz but for over 30 years I’ve been using Ardell drops that used to be $.99 a 1 oz bottle! Woohoo! Now it’s about $6 for .025oz or $9.99 - $12.99 for a 1 oz bottle. Watch your prices because a few months ago I found the Ardell 1 oz for $5.99 so I bought 4. They have also have single packs of .068 ounce of Ardell Unred for $.99 if you just want to try it. With the 1 oz bottles of Ardell Unred or Red/Gold Corrector you can add it to your shampoos and conditioners yourself and save alot of $$$.. MORE NOTES: Every special occasion I use CHI Ionic Shine Shades 7I Dark Iridescent Blonde or even CHI Ionic Shine Shades 9I Light Iridescent Blonde with a 20 developer to add ever so light, pink, purple, opal like iridescence shine to my hair for an amazing vibrant color. I can’t explain it. It only lasts for a few shampoos so I only do it on special occasions and I don’t dry my hair out by over-processing. CHI just adds an amazing shine of colors to blonde hair. CHI also has a CHI Ionic Shine Shades CLEAR Iridescent color just to help seal and really shine hair. Happy coloring and STAY BEAUTIFUL! Anna

Actually dyed my hair! I love how dark it is!
I have naturally brown hair and I dye it black. For the past few months I’ve been having trouble finding a black hair dye that ACTUALLY dyes my roots! I’ve tried a handful of brands and they all left my roots BROWN. I finally gave this one a try and it worked! It’s a really dark black, which I love! And my roots are no longer brown! But beware, as it does stain the skin pretty badly. I don’t have greys so I can’t vouch for grey coverage. I used the shade Blackest Black.

It truly gives the color that is expected in the color I used is eight medium blonde.
You know I used to use this stuff years and years ago and then I got into dying in my hair with professional hair dye. Let me tell you I couldn’t take the smell of the professional hair dye anymore so I purchased this product again and I’m so sorry I stopped using it because this stuff is amazing. I get the exact color I want and it leaves your hair so soft no harsh smells whatsoever it also that conditioner that comes with is a nice big generous tube and you only need a quarter size to put your hair. The conditioner is actually repairing my damage ends from the last time. I had my hair done at a beauty shop. I will continue to use nice and easy forever. The stuff is great and on a second note when I used to get nice and easy years ago, I always had compliments how perfect the color was because this product really leaves your hair looking real, not fake.

DONT BUY LOST HALF MY HAIR
My wife got this product, her review: Not only did the hair dye wash out by 80, it made half of my hair fall from the root!!! It’s been 3 weeks since use and still have steady abnormal hair fall that’s never happened before in my entire life. No change since then in diet lifestyle and not on medication, used the product exactly as instructed in the box including treatment time. I cannot believe the damage it has done to my scalp, do NOT BUY!
