The introduction and instructions at each stage are vitally important. Many other sight-reading series is lacking in that area. The exercises are primarily to test what level you are at. YOU WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR LEVEL WITH JUST THE EXERCISES IN THIS BOOK. NO SIGHT-READING BOOK CAN DO THAT. To advance to the next level you must read several pages a day of new music at your CURRENT level. You need access to lots of music; that is beyond the content of any sight-reading method book.
