Inrush amps went from about 70 to 30. I could have adjusted it lower, but have read that water well pumps can fail prematurely if they don't come up to speed quickly. I get pressure in about a second. For longevity concerns, I only plan on using this during power outages so I will install a bypass switch. The seller says I can use jumpers across the input and output terminals and it won't harm the device. That's much simpler than using a 4 pole switch to isolate it.I bought the 4Kw version. My well draws 12 amps steady state and the soft start gets warm so I will add a heat sink. That's where my first quibble comes in. It will be difficult to mount this inside an enclosure and also have a heat sink because of the way the mounting holes are arranged. I may try to find an aluminum enclosure that will provide heat sinking and also make it easy to add a heat sink on the outside.The other quibble is the adjustments. As others have said, there is no manual. I learned that the time adjustment has more effect on the inrush than %. BTW, increasing the time reduces the inrush and surprisingly, increasing the % increases the inrush. I have mine set to 2.5 seconds and 50%.Other than that it worked great in initial testing. Time will tell how robust it is. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Setting up soft start *by M***X on November 4, 2023* I am reviewing my electric usage to maximise efficiency and minimize generator size. Critical items for winter like the furnace two freezers and all electronics are now set up to run on one 2400w ultra quiet inverter/'generator with a high surge capability it runs on gasoline, natural gas and propane for redundancy. I want to run the rest of the house on a medium sized generator of 4200 running watts. My in rush current on the well is 33 amps at 220 volts and that puts me a 7260watts by itself. I bought the 8k soft start to minimize that.SETUP: The soft start came with no instructions and most of the markings are in chinese. The two adjustments have no scale. I roughly set the start up voltage to 20% and the time to 2 seconds, started it up and watched the pressure guage. It did not go up for over 2 seconds. I readjusted to around 25% for no change. Tried 30% and the pressure increased immediatly meaning the pump rotor was not stalled or locked. The inrush current was 19 amps. I readjusted the time to about 3 seconds and the inrush current came in at 16 amps. That means 3200 amps startup on a 4200 watt generator without using any of the generstor surge capability. I am sure that I can further reduce the inrush current by increasing the startup time but tht will be another day. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works! *by P***S on May 18, 2024* It’s a basic softstarter which works.
